"britney's a SINGER so she should SING blah blah blah"
"OMG i can't believe she didn't sing live"
"you guys, it's so obvious that she only sang the first syllable of every word"
i think some of you are missing the point here. britney's a lot more of a
performer than a singer. she's one of the few solo women artists out there with such involved stage productions, so naturally she needs the help of background audio. other women don't dance as much; groups have more than one vocalist to fill out the song. britney only has herself and the audio track. cut her some slack.
i personally don't care one bit if she lipsynchs, because she is putting on a SHOW. if she were there expressly to sing, then she would not lipsynch (e.g. "everytime" on SNL). but she's dancing like mad, wearing something that looks rather uncomfortable, walking down ramps in heeled boots, shaking her ass and twirling around like there's no tomorrow, and doing it all very well, i might add. for her to do all that AND sing perfectly would take twice as much lungpower than she already has.
i would kill to be able to perform half as good as britney does, and i would have absolutely no shame in lipsynching. you can't have both strong vocals AND a flashy dance number at once, so where do you compromise? i think for the sake of the crazy spectacle of britney's shows, lipsynching isn't a problem. i definitely consider britney more of a performer who can sing sometimes than a singer who can perform.
