There are also a variety of strange religions posing as Christianity (but they aren't) which are really cults. They play on people's desire to belong to a group, exploit that, make them think they'll go to hell unless they join them, and then suck out lots of money from the members. NOT to be confused with the collection plate, which is voluntary, in the cults, it is mandatory, and they also try to keep people from having contact with anyone except other cult members.

Though you haven't explicitly mentioned either of those, I tend to think it highly likely those are really the people you are referring to, rather than genuine Christians who just so happened to tell you something was a sin/bad.
People can be Christian and still do "bad" things. I was taught that a Christian was someone who believed in God. That's it. I wasn't taught that a Chrsitian had to act and behave a certain way. You don't have to be in a cult to kill someone. You don't have to be in a cult to do something bad. Look at the Priests who molested children...they weren't in any sort of weird religion, they were Catholic, and very devout Catholics at that. Hell, they were priests!

Of course they can. Actually, just believing in God isn't enough to be a Christian. A Christian is somebody who believes that Jesus died on the cross to save him/her from his/her sins, rose again, and lives in Heaven now and that Jesus is God.

Actually, a Christian is supposed to act in the manner of Christ, at least as much as possible. They don't always, but that is because they are human too, hence they sin as well.

No, you don't have to be in a cult to kill someone but you DO have to have motive somewhere or else some sort of mental insanity, if there was no motive. That has nothing to do with Christianity and can happen with a person from any religion or no religion at all.

Also, funny you should say they were from no sort of "weird religion" because many Christians view Catholicism as corrupted and, actually, a weird religion! Not all, of course. Also, how is a priest more perfect than anyone else? A preist is worth no more and no less than any other person. A common man or woman or child could be holier than a priest--it is what is in the heart that counts, rather than what is on the outside.

I was taught different from you obviously. Not everyone of one faith believes exactly the same.

I mentioned the mental insanity thing earlier...but there are people who kill in the name of their religon. If you look at the Islamic extremesist, they kill because of their religion, they sacrifice themselves and the lives of innocent people around them. They may not have mental disorders, but they believe in their faith so strongly that they believe what they're doing is right. Who are we to call them sinners when to them, they were just following their faith?

When I said "weird religion" I was referring to the cults you mentioned. And a priest is different than any other person in my opinion because they have taken the ultimate expression of their faith by becoming a preist, someone in the chruch, and teaching the word of God to others and people look to them for guidance. It's nice to think that it's what on the inside that counts, but that's not the way our world works and you know it.

Key word being TRY. Yes I TRY to live my life like Jesus wants me too, but do I honestly think of him everytime I make a decison? No, I don't.

Then they are just labeling themselves whatever religion they say, but aren't acting on it. That does NOT make you a Christian or any other religion.

yeah. You cant just say youre a christian, you have to act like youre a christian too. Saying and not doing it, is the same, as not doing it at all.
