Why do people start smoking? Most of the times people start at the age when they're on high school. A friend smokes or starts smoking and tells you to smoke along. He/she doesn't want to leave behind and before you know it, the person's smoking as well. Everyone can make up their own mind whether they want to light a cigarette or not.
My mother smokes and honestly, I'm not thrilled about that at all! My sister and I told her enough times that we don't like it, but she doesn't seem to do anything with our comments. At least, in the beginning she didn't. In the summer, when the temperature's good, she does smoke outside, but during the winter (now!) she stays inside. Passive smoking can be unhealthy as well. |

| Why someone smokes can be compared to why someone is bisexual or gay or straight. Using peer pressure is an excuse, and most people DON'T do it to "be cool" as some people assume. You try it out of curiosity. I know I did. And I liked the feeling I got from it. You don't get addicted just by having one. You get addicted to liking the feeling, as you would an alcoholic beverage or soda. |

| I never tried it, and I never was curious for those things. I think they're pretty gross. The inside of your lungs are pretty gross. Couch it up and what comes out is pretty gross. Gross like a mouth full of rotten teeth. Everything in the room is yellow. Try to clean it, what you wipe off the wall is pretty gross.
But to each their own, ya know? People do poop-sex and that's pretty gross. But at least they don't do that in public. Imagine having to smell that the entire night while you're ordering your beer in a bar. I don't think you'd last very long... |

They recently passed this same ban in Houston. I thought it was going too far. They even banned it in bars. Which is just ridiculosu in my opinion. Smokers are people too. Quarantining them may be the only way to compromise so keep designated areas. |

Non-Smoker
For the following statements please state whether you strongly agree, agree, uncertain, disagree or strongly disagree.
Smoking is allowed in places serving food.
Strongly Disagree. I don't want to smell smoke while I'm eating my food.
Smoking is allowed in places serving food but only in designated areas.
Strongly Disagree. Smoke travels, see previous answer
Smoking is allowed in pubs, bars and nightclubs that do NOT serve food.
Disagree. I don't like the smell of smoke at all. If they have a special room for it, go nuts. There is a bar downtown called Awful Al's which is a cigar bar. That's fine.
Smoking is allowed in places where children are present.
Strongly Disagree. It's bad for our health but if you smoke that's your choice. I'm sure kids don't want to choose to smell smoke either. And they're young, they don't know anybetter anyway.
A smoking ban in public places will effect business.
Depends on the business. Cigarette business and the such yes. Other businesses, doubt it.
Smoking is a freedom of choice.
Agree.
I don't go around blowing health in the air around smokers, I'd also prefer they not blow death around me. I don't smoke because I don't like the smell and I don't want to increase the likelihood of cancer in my body. I don't want you giving it to me in smaller doses either.
Thank you for taking the time to fill out this questionnaire. |

Smoking is allowed in pubs, bars and nightclubs that do NOT serve food.agree. Smoking is part of the culture of bars...If people couldn't smoke in bars here...my God they'd throw a fit. I wouldn't know what to do with myself, I'll tell you that.
Smoking is allowed in places where children are present. Disagree
A smoking ban in public places will effect business. agree. Anything will effect business. If it rains outside business if affected. I know plenty of people that boycott resturants that don't allow smoking. Especially in the South where some people's livlihood IS tobacco...
Smoking is a freedom of choice. agree
By the way I hate the way people always go "People who smoke are SELFISH". OMFGSTFU. You do NOT know me. I am one of the most considerate people in the world. I NEVER smoke in people's houses if they don't smoke, and even if they do smoke I ask their permission. I don't smoke around people who don't like it....and I don't smoke in people's cars...(unless they are smoking in them of course).
If someone made a braod statement about ...say .....blacks it would be called...geez, whats that racism. Making a broad statemant about ANY group of people is pretty ignorant IMO, but I guess thats just me.
YES there are inconsiderate smokers out there, but guess what, thats not cause they are 'smokers' , its because they are 'people' and people are inconsiderate assholes for the most part. There are inconsiderate shoppers, inconsiderate drivers, etc. etc....so surely you shouldn't jump to the broad assumption that everyone who smokes is like the smokers you describe. It's kind of insulting . |
