I didn't have a cell phone at the age of 14, and i don't see why it's necessary. I bought my own when i turned ummm... 19 or something. I can see maybe at age 16, when you start driving and you're out there alone... But i know as a parent, i'm sure not gonna buy and pay for my 14 year old to have a cell phone just to what... talk to their friends?

More or less same here... got mine as a birthday present when
I turned 19... primarly for the reason, that I was going to move
from home, and we didn't have a phone up here, where it was
possible to call 'out of the house'. So that would be the only
way for me to get in contact with the old folks

it for... but now, when I've got something to use it for... I
wouldn't be without it

i didnt say its necessary and i see your point about the: "have one to have one" thing but if she really needs one then its dummy...

Actually it all depends. I got my first phone when i was 10-12 years old. (don't remember) My parents have always been overprotected about me...and well i used to go to my tennis practices a lot and it was at the other side of the city so they gave me the cell phone to either call them or something.
right now..i never use my phone. i hate it when people call me..i dunno why tho. i just wanna be left alone i guess
