| ok, about the first thing with ur mouse, ever tried cleaning ur mouse, u know u take out teh ball and clean it a bit inside of it, that could be a possible solution
concerning the second thing i would say u have def too many things in ur autostart folder, just press start, programs and then find teh folder autostart and just remove all teh stuff u dont need from theer and if a programs starts every time although itsisnt in teher just start it and check teh options of that program, its always possible to deactivate the autostart function |

| First thing: probably some little filthy parts inside the mouse (dirt) blocking the wheel, open it and clean it
Some programs are opened and run in the background when you start up your computer. Even programs who aren't in your autostart folder. Try this: while normally being in windows, press: CTRL + ALT + DELETE
You'll get a menu with all the menus that are currently opened. When you see one, simply double click on the name and it will close. Repeat that ( first CTRL+ALT+DELETE again and then double click on name in list) wthl all the names of every program and it will save you up loads of free RAM memory, making your computer go faster |

| It's not great fun, but I know a friend who did what you said. Deleted all the programs that normally ran in the background.
It turned out one of them was a program which was useless to him cause he couldn't use it for anything and it took up free memory every time he used his computer. So he deleted it.
The next day his computer didn't start anymore, it turned out to be a program which is useless when your computer is running, but your pc needs the program to be able to start windows, to be able to run when starting up. So yeah, he had to go to a store with it and it gave him loads of problems ...
So just one little warning, be careful when you delete a program you don't know the use of. I don't take any risks and I always close them when I start up my pc
It just takes 1 minute. |

| First of all, Windows 98 is notorious for freezing. Aside from closing programs, you can clear your Recent Documents folder. I dont know how you do it in 98, but in 2000, go to Start->Settings->Taskbar and Start Menu->Advanced, and there is a button to clear out all previously viewed documents. That helps alot. Also if you get a program like Window Washer that cleans your temp files and such and it will improve your uptime. But, with 98 you will have to reboot everyday pretty much. I never got an uptime of more than three days with it.
Oh and when you clean your mouse, make sure you get the dirt wrapped around the little moveable bars inside. That is the one part i missed when i first cleaned my mouse and i thought it was broken. Of course i figure it out after i buy a new one. D'oh! |

| Heh, will mice don't last too long in general - yeah try cleaning it first, if that doesn't work there's not much you can do except buy a new one...
For the second thing if they way they said above works but if you want to get rid of the programs starting up forever do this :
- go to Start -> Run and then type in 'msconfig' and press Enter
- then click on the tab that says 'Startup' (top-right of the window)
- you should have a list of programs come up, you can untick the box next to each program you don't want to start up (make sure you know what the program actually is though!) - then press OK and restart the computer |

| I have actually had THE EXACT SAME THING happen with my mouse before!!! And, folks, this is NOT a cleaning-your-mouse issue,.....it is DEVICE DRIVER CONFLICT!!!
The mouse driver(s) you have, for some reason, don't exactly work like they should. You should try to uninstall those and reinstall the ones Windows comes with, and just deal without the added functionality (Yes, you will have to do this with the keyboard, seeing as how you cannot use your mouse. General things to know are that Tab is good at switching between items/fields, usually hold Alt and press the key of things which are underlined to select them.
You will need to uninstall a lot of things through the control panel Add-Remove programs dialog box. |
