Official Asteroid Thread: Earth's Close Call

We are luckier than than other planets though. Jupiter get craters the size of 10-20 football fields. Imagine that hitting the earth.

Don't you remember Armageddon??? They try to keep this a secret from people for a reason, to avoid mass hysteria. Can you imagine the reaction of 6 billion people finding out that an asteroid could very well hit the earth? People would go nuts! Riots would break out everywhere, Nuclear weapons would be stolen and used. Its probably better to just not say anything, even if they just try to warn people. I mean, we would all die anyways, there's no point in warning. There's nothing we could do. Just inform the people who need to know, and thats it.

And I just thought about something. They say it would only wipe out a certain area, but dont you think that if it hit the earth with enough force, that it would knock the earth out of its orbit, and end up killing everybody because of vast climatic differences?
