Mandy Moore is in Toronto filming her starring role in the teen romance How to Deal. Directed by Clare Kilner (1999's Janice Beard: 45 Words Per Minute), the New Line Cinema production is based on two works of young adult fiction by Sarah Dessen, Someone Like You and That Summer.
"I play a cynical, jaded teenage girl who doesn't really believe in love because there are all these examples of love gone wrong around her," says Moore. "I haven't had the opportunity to be [like the character], but I guess I'll get all my anger and frustration out by taking on this role."
Moore starred in another romance film, A Walk to Remember, earlier this year, playing a minister's daughter. Her next appearance on the big screen will be in the Jeffrey Porter-directed Try Seventeen, which also stars Lord of the Rings' Elijah Wood.
Moore won't be contributing any songs to the soundtrack for How to Deal, but she plans to return to the studio by the end of the year to record the follow-up to her 2001 self-titled third album.
