You know, that is a sad story. And I hope not to come off insensitive, but that was not at all Jenny's fault. That's the only part of the story I can't understand. Why would she take the blame for the shit Dan caused? She didn't drink or smoke anything and she didn't drive any car.

That's fine that she feels horrible about the lives that were lost, but it wasn't her fault.

Because she lied to her parents, and therefore probably feels a lot of guilt and takes the blame for everything, because if she had told her parents the truth, things may have been different.
