jeans are really really really hard to make and expensive too...why don't u try to make some tops first and then on to pants (not jeans),plain pants...work from there, pants are hard to make too, but at least u'll get the xperience b4 u splash out on the materials for a pair of jeans...do u have anyone at hm that sews?

That's not true. Determination helped me make several pairs of pants, backpack purses, etc., when I had no clue!! Just look up what you don't understand on the net. Pants aren't hard. And it's not that expensive if you go to a fabric store and see what's best to use.

Mel-Mel Rox: Pants and JEANS are very different, pants can have no pockets at all and that is what I'm suggesting to him/her/it. You and I may think that making a simple pair of pants are easy. but for her because she has had NO experience it would be hard. In my opinion tops are the easiest to make and then pants.

Denim I think is one of the easiest materials to sew on, but it isn't the cheapest. depending on the length of your legs, it can be 1.5m or however many yards to you people, and per metre is about 15dollars to get a decent piece of denim. and the buttons on the jeans aren't cheap either, the double needle is about 6dollars, compared to the ballpoint needles that you can get at supermarkets at about 2dollars for a pack of 5.

The metal zip is around 2dollars, the interfacing is about 75cents per meter, the thread which has to be polyester is about 3dollars, muslin for the pockets about half a meter of that around 50cents,the buttons at about 5dollars for 5buttons, electricity for the sewing machine around 2dollars (that's how long an intermediate sewer would take) that equals 42dollars. It is an awful lot to spend on a beginner project!it is not worth it because you'll just be wasting your money because your jeans won't be as good as the ones at the shop. wouldn't you be more happier if you were really bad the first time and then be really good later, then you can say to yourself "wow, I did that, I am so proud of myself!"

Mel~Mel Rox: everyone is bad the first time, you and I know it and so do lots of other people who sew know that it's a fact...don't say that the first time you sewed you had no clue. you might of had some help, maybe you don't remember it? Do you remember when you first sewed, your lines were crooked and you keep forgetting to put the foot down onto the fabric?determination is a key I suppose but this is sewing a pair of JEANS, this means that you have to have the "perfect" pattern, Jeans are hard to make as I said before. Jeans don't work if the pattern doesn't work, jeans are COMPLICATED!!!!. fariyprincess has had no sewing experience...so don't you think that it is too hard for her sewing ability?

When I first starting sewing, I started with pillows. coz it's easy just 4 sides! then I made bags, then tops, curtains(random eh?!) trousers, now jackets...then hopefully jeans...

I might sound really negative about you making jeans, but think about it jeans are really hard to make, just look at your mum's,dad's,sister's jeans, you may be rushing into things when you're not ready...think of this as advice...
