I have the organ donor thing checked on my drivers liscense but I don't give blood. My grandma works for the blood center where I live and she scared me at the very early age of 8 by grabbing my arm and going on and on about how I had "such great veins"...it really freaked me out so I won't give blood. Not only that, but I don't like needles. I can get piercings though...which is probably much worse than giving blood, but eh. And, ontop of that, when I was 10 I was in the hospital for 2 weeks after my appendix ruptured and I had needles stuck into me every 4 hours for about 2 weeks straight, plus countless IVs and ughh....makes me sick thinking about it.

But to answer the question, unfortunatley I'm anemic, underweight, and don't have a good blood cell count, so I'm not allowed to give blood. I really want too though. I think it's a great thing to do, and I'm not scared of needles. I think I'll try again and see if they'll let me.
Ive had problems with my iron count too... the last time i went they turned me away with iron tablets cuz my blood was too lacking of iron for them to have. But even though i get scared and collapse everytime i do i feel so good about it afterwards cuz i know its such a help.

You know, only 6% of the UK give blood? Its far too low.

As fir the donor card - i dont have one. I cant stand the thought of a few surgeons messing about with my body after I'm dead. Cutting me up and burying a hollow shell of a corpse. However i would gladly donate a kidney or bone marrow if anybody needed... I'm looking into bone marrow donations, but u have to be 18 - less than 2 weeks is my 18th bday, so i shall register within the month!

Even if I wanted to I couldn't, I'm also anaemic and have a really low blood cell count, its near 7 or something if it does get low I may need a blood transfusion I'm too scared to go back to see if I do.

I am almost 18. In the age range of 16-18 you can donate every 6 months (In the US). So I've donated all 3 times I've been eligible. After 18 you can donate every 3 months. I plan on doing so. Why? Because it saves other peoples lives, and make you healthier in doing so. It makes your blood cycle quicker for a little bit giving your heart a really good excercise session and forces your cells to produce really good blood to replace the lost amount. I have decided that I will give all of my usable organs after my death to those in need, and I'm going to donate bone marrow for the first time in 3 months. For those who don't know what that is, they drill a little hole directly into the bone of your hip/ butt, and take out some of the spongy stuff in the middle. Yeah it's going to hurt like a freaking mother, but it's worth it if I save one life. Hehe, I think it's one of the more amazing things in life to watch. Just how so many people selfishly give to another their life blood. Their life juice. It's just amazing. Hehe, I donate at the school and it's super funny because when blood drive comes around, people like tank up on water (it makes blood like tons thinner so it donates quicker), and every time slot (usually within 45 minutes you're completely done) has races to see who can donate the quickest. I've never won but I came in 3rd once. I donated the full amount in 5 minutes 39 seconds to get that 3rd. Each time is more fulfilling too. I'm scared that if I donate too much people on the streets will think i'm a heroin addict. I scar really easily and I already look like I shoot up a little bit. Never have I promise. It's just really exciting. And believe me being sacred of needles is a pointless fear. And I almost guarantee if you donate just once your fear will disappear. Mine did. Hehe, well I've rambled way ton a lot.
