| Dying without having children | | I have been thinking, is it our duty that we have children before we die or does it matter, I guess I am thinking I might not get my chance and I will have missed out or something.
If people choose not to have children, is that okay as well. I guess I can think of possibly this happening to a family member of mine and I know my relatives think that is the worst ever. |

| No, I do not believe it is our duty to have children. But each person should figure that out for themselves.
If you're looking for reasoning as to why I believe so, it goes as follows:
1. We're people, not ants.
2. The standard is one baby at a time, not eight or nine of them.
3. The humans have about the longest lifespan per individual on earth.
These are signs that indicate that you probably won't go to hell if you don't choose to have kids. Some anti-abortion people may object because turning a YES KID into a NO KID equals aborting the decision to create a life, which is bad. (OH NOES!)
Bottom line is this. Each person should do what they desire to do. If you desire to have children, then you are bound to make ways to fulfill that desire. It's that simple, really. |

| I think if it's up to 'nature' we should have lots of childeren running around. But I do not think it's our duty to HAVE childeren. There are so many people on this planet that it doesn't really matter if you don't get childeren yourself. |

Because of us, countless of animals are on the verge of extinction. Because of us, the crack in the ozone layer changed into a kingsize hole. Because of us, complete forests have turned into the paper carefully stored inside office shredders. Because of us, toxic waste pollutes our seas and presents us with dead sea lions washing ashore every so often.
That's how we communicate with nature. And as a result, we have a love-hate relationship with it. It gives us life, and every so often for our limitless desire to demand it's attention whenever we so please, it expresses it's gratitude by doing a routine population control procedure in the form of floads, quakes and hurricanes. But only in cases when we lack to do one of our own.
I like it best when nature does one though. War is so brutal. |

| I don't see the duty of having children as something that applies to humans any more. "back in the day" it was basically "do or die"...children were necessary to sustain the human race and it wasn't uncommon for a woman to have many children for the fact that not all of them lived to adulthood. However, today...I think it's more of an option. Some people still think that it's a womans duty to have children, others don't. I personally can't imagine going through life not having a child. That's not to say I'm ready to have one now but it's something that I think of as important. But it's completely a personal decision...I don't think anyone has a right to say what others should or shouldn't do. |

| Well if you're on only child I can see if not having children can make you feel guilty. In many cases it's like you're the end of your family tree. On the other hand if you do have brothers or sisters, then you may not feel so bad because they probably will have children. If you don't want to have children, don't have them. I mean many people nowadays have children because they fill them with joy and make them have a duty in their dutiless life. But if you're more independent, go ahead, screw the kids. That's my take in a logical and matter-of-fact point of view. |

| It isn't my duty. I'd rather not help destroy the world with yet more people to put on it. |

I plan on adopting and having my own children...it's been something I've always wanted to do. |

War is so brutal. | We as a species may end up killing our planet, and having more and more people on the Earth is one certain way which could lead to a horrible end. More and more people will use up our precious resources at a greater rate, as well as producing increasing amounts of pollution and using up even more land. So no, I don't believe it is our duty to have children, especially at this point in history. |
