| Colleges! | | Um yeah...as I'm getting ready to begin my senior year, I'm gettin' piled high with college stuff and I'm going to have to start applying REALLY soon and here I am trying to figure out where I want to go. I have a couple of schools in mind, but I was just wondering what colleges y'all are interested in if you haven't gone yet, what college you went to/are going to, and just any information to help this process because I have soooo much to do and I need a little guidance here. So yeah...just ANY help would be appreciated. And any suggestions of good colleges would also be appreciated. |

| When i looked at colleges, all i really looked at was price. In Connecticut, there are 4 "state" schools, Southern, Western, Eastern and Uconn. Western was the cheapest, it's about $11,000 a year, including living there. And, it has one of the best Business schools around, and my major *at the time* was Accounting.
So that was my choice. Sure, there are other schools out there, with big names... But i couldn't really afford any of those. What i love about my school is that it's so informal. It's big, but not HUGE. There are 2 campuses not too far from each other with a bus that runs between the two. There are regular dorms, and upperclass apartment dorms (which i'm moving into this semester). The campus is like a park, you can walk around at night and feel completely safe... But it's in a bigger city so there's lots of "city-ish" stuff around it.
Yeah, that's my deal with MY school. It's hard to recommend a school because i don't know what you're looking for... price... close to home... FAR from home.. what your intended major is... |

| It depends on what you want to do. You should pick a college based on the major you want. That is the best advice I can give and that is why I'm going where I'm going. If you don't know what you want to major in, go for location. |

| I'm pretty sure I want to major in theater, though I'm keeping my options open. I've been mainly looking at colleges in Cali, NY, and here in Texas. |

| I'd go with NY. Thats where Broadway is, so I'd imagine they'd have more experienced professors and probably more in tune with the whole theater thing. |

| If you wanna do theater, you def need to look in L.A. and New York, or even Chicago. They have a lot of schools that emphasize/have good programs with that major. |

| You can find a good CTA program and it doesn't have to be in just NY or CA... For instance, schools like mine have awesome CTA programs, just as good if not better. You can always start at a smaller school, and transfer for your senior year to a bigger school if you absolutely HAVE to be OUT THERE. |

| If you want to major in theater or the arts or something like that... well I have no idea what college you should go to. I can't name any. But you should go to the drama teacher at your high school and talk to him/her about it. You should also talk to your guidance counselor about it. They're probably going to set you up with a counselor for all your college needs and everything.
Personally, I am going to major in Communications. I also had an interest in journalism. My counselor told me that MU in Columbia, Missouri is the best place to go for Journalism, hands down, and that it's also a great school for Communications. It's also good for me because I preferred to go to college not necessarily out of state, but definitely outside of St. Louis. Columbia is smack in the middle of Missouri. It's roughly a 3-hour drive from my house. So it's far enough from home that I can experience a very different atmosphere, but not to far away that traveling between there and home is a complete pain in the ass.
Location really is one of the main factors in deciding where to go to college.
Good luck, Lana! |
