Well.. I could run him into the ground with a snap of my fingers.. but I don't want to be an asshole really.

I'll talk to him and see if we can't come to a compromise point on what he can change then. If he is already capable enough to use pieces of a layout and not give credit, I don't think he is capable of saying "Ok.. I will change it" without a fight.

Well, I'm not asking you to kick his ass, maybe just point out that it is illegal, and he could get in trouble if he does that to the wrong person, so it would be best to try and keep it original as possible. I mean, I have no problem with people using elements of my layouts, but if they copy exactly, without changing colours or style, then I have a problem. But like I said, if you explain nicely, he may be more willing to change it.
