Sly Smile Brain teaser....

Three guys are in a hotel room and they decide to order a pizza. The total comes to $30 so they split the cost and pay $10 each when the delivery boy arrives (no tip mind you).

The pizza guy gets back to the restaurant and is told "Sorry we made a mistake - the price should have been only $25 - so please take $5 back to the customer"

On the way back the disgruntled pizza boy pockets $2 for himself (after all those cheap guys didn't tip him) and returns $3 to the men who split it evenly.

The question now is "How much did each man pay for the pizza?"

Most people remember that the men each paid $10 originally... AND that by splitting the retruned $3 they should have each gotten $1 back.

$10 - $1 = $9

$9 each is of course the correct answer. Here's the wierd part though that will leave you (and me) scratching your head:

$9 X 3 (men) = $27

$27 + $2 (the money the pizza boy stole) = $29

So where did the other $1 go???

Will give the answer in a couple of days unless someone else figures it out first

What a pretty case of decieving math...

9x3 = 27 (the total paid)

27 - 2 = 25 (the total amount of the pizza)

30 - 3 (dollars back) - 2 (in his pocket) = 25 (amount of pizza)

If you do the math just wrong, it looks right, and people get confused.

I'm not sure if i explained this right.

25/3 = 8.33333 + $1 = 9.33333

each person really only paid $ 9.33

9.33333333 X 3=$28

28 +2 (that bus boy stole) = $30

Default Another teaser:

The outer track of a phonograph record is a circle of radius 6 inches. The undused center of the disk is a circle of radius 3 inches. If the record has 20 grooves per inch, how far, to the nearest inch, does the needle travel white the record plays from beginning to end?

I'm not sure if that's right stardust, but damm Wdnesday that's exactly it - solved in less than the time it took me to have a shower.

EDIT : did it wrong the first time

Average radius = 4.475 (middle of two inside tracks)
Total grooves = 60

Total radius = 8.95 * 30 (each pair of inside and outside grooves add up to a radius of 8.95) = 268.5

Total distance = 2 * 268.5 * pi (use 3.14)
= 1681 inches

Still can't believe I'm doing maths on uni holidays...

Hmmm I think it was 8.33 each for the pizza actually - with a $2 group 'tip' to the pizza boy... *starts to rub head*
