| 911 - Can someone help? - Computer Related | | For some reason anymore, if I'm on the internet and I want to save pictures it only let's me save it as BITMAP(.bmp). And when I goto My Documents and click on a picture to view it, I have Windows XP Professional and it usually opens in a new window. Now it opens in Paint. I went to the Microsoft website and after an hour of going back and forth, I get nothing. Can someone please help me with my problem, or at least tell me what's wrong, so I can attempt to fix it? Thank you. |

Thank you. | Okay,....this is kinda hard to explain quickly and cleanly. There could be multiple things going on. Now,....I'm not that familiar with WindowsXP, but I am a computer guy. Bitmaps open in MS-Paint because that is the program associated with that file type...............many different programs have associated file types........and this can be changed via the registry/Windows Explorer.
Now,........maybe Internet Explorer is only letting you save pictures to bitmap because some settings in your registry are screwed up, some dynamic link libraries are old (can't see how.....being it is WindowsXP you have), or you either changed some settings somewhere or they got changed for you, whether you like it or not.
Now,....I know this hasn't been much help,....but it is what is going on. |

Sometimes Windows has a tendency to randomly change things. A clean install of WindowsXP should do the trick,....but that's maybe a bit too much.........up to you
To answer the person with the missing dynamic link library.......
you HAVE to find it somewhere..........try reinstalling software,........might have to reinstall Windows..............can try looking for it with some file sharing program...........but you can't necessarily trust files you get with those. |
