You'd think that this summer's reality TV programming would have shown the proletarian ''Amazing Race'' contestants fueling up on Burger King meals and ''Simple Life 2'' heiresses Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie gorging on caviar, instead of the other way around. As it turns out, Hilton is a self-proclaimed fan of the fast-food franchise, site of a memorable ''Simple Life'' episode. And the feeling is mutual, her camp says; E! Online reports that the chain has approached the skinny socialite to be a commercial spokeswoman. ''No deal is in place, but Burger King is interested in using Paris,'' sources close to Hilton tell the website.
Famed fashion photographer and video director David LaChapelle would reportedly film the ad. The deal would reportedly be worth $750,000 to Hilton -- not a whopping sum to the hotel heiress, though the commercial might also help boost her recording career by using one of her songs on the soundtrack.
Hilton and Richie paid a visit to Burger King this season and managed to order $22 worth of food, finding themselves surprisingly short of cash to pay for it all. After Richie's attempts to give the uneaten food back failed, she and Hilton flirted with some local guys, who chivalrously ponied up the shortfall. How does Hilton eat fast food and yet remain as slim as a French fry? ''I have a really good metabolism,'' she told the Washington Post earlier this month. ''And I love Burger King, it's my favorite fast-food place.''
Despite Hilton's fondness for flame-broiled burgers, some franchise owners reportedly think she's not wholesome enough to represent the chain. Advertising Age quotes one executive as saying that the ''extreme baggage she carries'' would doom the deal. (By ''extreme baggage,'' the executive apparently meant Hilton's notorious homemade sex video.) But Hilton's publicist insisted that negotiations with Burger King were still taking place, saying only, ''We don't have a deal yet.''
Hilton, who already has an endorsement deal with Guess? clothing and an album due at the end of the year, also has a memoir coming out on Sept. 7, called ''Confessions of an Heiress: A Tongue-in-Chic Peek Behind the Pose,'' the Associated Press reports. The 23-year-old's life story may be as thin as she is (it's just 198 pages), but it comes padded with helpful advice and fashion tips, like, ''Trust me, people act differently to you when you've got jewelry on your head.'' Anyways, I never though David LaChapelle would do a Burger King comercial, nor would Paris endorse fast food. Eh, I guess it'll be different.
