Last night, the mere sight of US pop superstar Justin Timberlake provoked mayhem at Melbourne's least glamorous venue, although admittedly the stageside presence of his girlfriend, Cameron Diaz, lent some Hollywood glamour.
Last night's crowd were diehard fans who didn't baulk at paying $130 for a stripped-back club show.
He opened with a funked-up version of Cry Me A River and his 13-piece band delivered extended, soulful versions of senorita, Gone and a cover of the Rolling Stones' Miss You.
Another highlight included the ballad Take It From Here. When he performed Like I Love You, Diaz could be seen jumping wildly at the side of the stage.
Timberlake played piano and guitar, and unlike his ex, Britney Spears, sang rather than mimed. |
