Can Britney Fill Madonna's Shoes?
Updated Monday, September 15, 2003 3:30 P.M. (ET)
Britney Spears
There once was a time when Madonna was the queen of self-promotion, the queen of pop, the queen of mainstream radio. She was a trailblazer with a seemingly endless amount of marketing ingenuity at her disposal. Now it's time for a new female to be appointed queen of future pop, and that is Britney Spears (see "Britney And Madonna: BFF?").
First her ex Justin Timberlake inadvertently gives her a free promo with his "Cry Me a River" video then Fred Durst gives her some more with his comments at his recent concert. She dates Cameron Diaz's ex Jared Leto, then poses for an endless number of quasi-nude photos for a variety of hugely successful magazines and tops it off with her stunning MTV VMA performance. Britney truly has proven her place in the ever-changing pop market. She's that perfect mix of innocence and deviance that leaves people waiting for her next move. There is no doubt in my mind that her upcoming album will outsell her last effort. One would be hard-pressed to call this girl anything but a smart businesswoman.

Britney and Madonna have to be kidding us. That kiss was obviously an act of desperation to save both their failing careers. Madonna, while being smart, savvy and talented in her day is too old to play the sexy nymph anymore. Britney clearly feels she has to drum up controversy to gain attention and cover her lack of talent.

It's cool of Britney Spears to be honest about everything. She doesn't make a big deal about the kiss with Madonna, so we even more see that it was just an act, a way to make a brilliant show. I believe that Britney is really a big fan of Madonna's and Madonna appreciates this in a very cool way. She gives all the support back to Britney. I believe Britney is about to step in Madonna's shoes. Go for it, B.

Again, Britney Spears has a big problem with telling the truth. There was no tongue? Riiiight. There are pictures everywhere of the kiss, tongue and all. Her career is more about publicity stunts than music.

Britney Spears' interview with Gideon Yago was excellent. The media has blown the kiss way out of proportion, trying to make it something more than what it was. It was merely three very talented performers having a little fun.

Is Britney Spears kidding us? She claims to be a huge Madonna fan, yet she has never seen "Desperately Seeking Susan." Please start featuring people who have actual talent and don't need to resort to hype to cover for their lack of it.
