50 Cent, Beyonce, Christina, Justin Top List Of AMA Nominees

(9/15/03, 4 p.m. ET) -- 50 Cent, Beyonce, Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, Evanescence, Matchbox Twenty, Shania Twain, and Missy Elliott are among the top nominees for the 31st annual American Music Awards (AMAs). 50 Cent leads the pack with five nominations, while Beyonce nabbed four, and tourmates Christina Aguilera and Justin Timberlake picked up three each when the nominees were announced Monday (September 15) in Beverly Hills, California.

Show producer @#%$ Clark told LAUNCH that the show will be an even bigger event than the last and will hold some surprises as well. "We've been doing this for the past 30 years and I think it's time to switch it up a little for our 31st show. The ceremony is going to take place a few months earlier than usual, so that, alone, will make it much different for us. There will be a lot of surprises this year and I think the viewers will be pleased."

The AMAs ceremony will take place November 10 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, and as of yet, a host has not been confirmed, but sources indicate that Britney Spears is in negotiations. If Spears should host, it would not be the first time she's hosted the event. The pop princess co-hosted the 29th annual show with rapper LL Cool J in 2001. Twenty awards will be presented during a three-hour telecast on the ABC Network, which will air 8-11 p.m. ET/PT.

Special awards to be presented include the annual Award of Merit, which traditionally goes to an legendary artist or music-industry icon, and the Coca-Cola New Music Award, which is bestowed upon an unsigned act.
