| Im still shocked and surprized that she drove with Sean on her lap, BUT she hasent done it since and I dont think she will, she learned her lession for that. As for this, the only thing I see wrong is Sean's little head dangling down and he should have a pillow holding it up or something. OH well! Im sure when we all were babies and feel asleep in the car, our heads did the same thing. At least he is in a car seat!! |

| Pregnant pop star Britney Spears insists she did nothing wrong when she drove her Mini Cooper convertible with son Sean Preston slumped forward in his car seat in the rear of the vehicle. The Toxic singer sparked outrage when photographs appeared of her eight-month-old son strapped in the backseat of her car facing forward instead of backward, which is the safer direction for car seats according to California motor-vehicle code. According to the code, babies who weigh 20 pounds (9 kilograms) or who are less than a year old should have their car seats facing backward.
California Highway Patrol spokesman Tom Marshall says, "The seat is facing the wrong way. We like it when the child's head is facing back." The singer's representatives have rejected the criticism, stating that because the baby is already over 20 pounds, he is allowed to face forward. In a statement, a spokesperson says, "It has been reported that there is a photo of Britney Spears driving with her child sitting in a forward-facing child safety seat in the back seat of the car. "Having a child in the child safety seat facing forward in the rear seat of the car is in compliance with California law. "There is no law in California requiring rear-facing seats. In fact, there are only ten states that require a child to be in a rear-facing seat, and in two of those states it is not required if the infant is more than 20 pounds. "Britney's son Sean weighs over 20 pounds. As such, Britney Spears was in total compliance with California law with the forward-facing child safety car seat with the baby strapped in properly in the back of the car."
Spears has already received two visits from the Department of Children and Family Services - one in February (06), after she was photographed driving with her son sitting on her lap and one in April (06), when her son fell out of his highchair and injured his head. No action was taken in either case.
-----------------------------------------
Kevin Federline, husband to pregnant popstar Britney Spears, today shrugged off the negative press about Britney's latest driving with baby dilemma in Los Angeles. Britney was photographed two days ago on a quiet private road in the gated estate surrounding her Malibu Hills mansion in a convertible Mini Cooper with son Sean Preston secured behind her in his baby seat but facing forward which is against California law. In these exclusive pictures Kevin is seen departing a friends house for a photoshoot, and on his arrival back when some questions were posed to him about the incident he went on with words to the effect that B (Britney) loves Sean P (her son Sean Preston) very much, that he is her life and she would never do anything to put him in harms way. She certainly didn't think she was doing anything wrong and that this is just another excuse for people to drag her down . And on the topic of the direction of his musical career that "everything is great, busy, but great, we are moving forward, in fact I just did a great photoshoot for some music promotion." |

| i don't think Britney is a bad mother at all. i think it would be stupid to say she wasn't, because you don't know. if you would base your opinion on one main public experience (when she had Sean in her lap), I don't think one mistake makes her a bad parent. Guess what... every parent makes mistakes, especially parents who are new to the game. Do I defend the fact that she had Sean in her lap? No. There is no excuse for it. It was a dumb move. BUT, I don't think that makes her a bad parent. She was in a situation. She reacted. She over-reacted and did the wrong thing. As for the whole carseat thing in THIS circumstance, if CA law doesn't require it (which according to the article on mtv.com, she DIDN'T break any law) then what's the big deal? I personally feel that if she was in THAT devastating of a car accident, he could get easily injured regardless of what end of the car his carseat is facing. |

| Now just to add to this thread, the weather in Californina has been nowhere near the 80s. Well it has been in the 80s just in the valley, not where Britney is at assumming shes still in Malibu. The average for that city and mine is 69 degress, its just barely been cracking in to the 70s. Now you can rest easy knowing he wont get heat stroke. http://www.weather.com/weather/pastw...CA0660?when=-3 |

Some say the world is a courtroom. That we have to answer for the mistakes we make. But I don't believe in tribunals. |

| Just because something isn't illegal doesn't mean it's the right thing to do, and just because Britney's not a really bad mother (as far as we know) doesn't mean she's a good one either. One of the most important jobs in the world (parenting) - IMHO anyway - requires no qualifications whatsoever and any fertile moron can have a kid. Not that I'd want there to be some sort of "approval process", that's a whole can of worms I don't want to go near - I guess what I'm saying is that Britney is just like any other not-too-bright parent, just with a shitload more publicity. |

If it was say, 69 degrees on that day the picture was taken, Sean still should have had sunscreen on or a hat on. Babies are more susceptible to things like that.
And also, riding in a convertible with the top down for a baby is not a good thing. The air can make him have a hard time breathing or even unable to catch his breath. I know I mentioned this before. So yeah. Don't know why I need to mention it again. lol |
