Little by little, the edifice of Britney Spears's wholesome image has been chipped away.
No, she is not a virgin. Yes, she does like to drink.
And yesterday the singer blew her good girl myth out of the water for good after admitting she has dabbled in drugs.
Miss Spears, 21, revealed she has tried drugs out of curiosity, but admitted it was a mistake.
'If I was half as wild as the stories about me, I wouldn't be sitting here right now,' the singer said when asked whether she had taken drugs. 'But let's say that you reach a stage in your life where you are curious.
'And I was curious at one point. 'But I'm way too focused to let anything stop me. Was it a mistake? Yes.'
The star chose to speak out about her drug taking in America's Star magazine which, four months ago, alleged that she had taken cocaine in the toilet of a Miami nightclub.
An unidentified friend told the magazine about accompanying Miss Spears to the toilet and seeing her snort the drug through a dollar bill. The friend said he or she was speaking out because of worries about the star's health.
At the time Miss Spears's publicist threatened to sue the magaandzine and insisted 'there is absolutely no truth to this story whatsover'.
But a day later the publicist was sacked.
Yesterday magazine sources admitted the interview was given to them as part of 'a deal' worked out following their story.
The revelation shows just how different the real Britney Spears is from her manufactured image.
Last year she admitted her proclaimed virginity was a sham, said she did like going to nightclubs and revealed she is a smoker.
After taking some time off for 'exhaustion' nearly year ago and splitting from long- term boyfriend Justin Timberlake (who has himself admitted to liking cannabis), there have been increasing concerns from her record label that she had, in fact, gone out of control.
She became a regular feature in nightclubs and seemed to have a different boyfriend every week including bad-boy actor Colin Farrell and rocker Fred Durst.
Miss Spears admitted in the magazine that she enjoys drinking - her favourite drinks being Malibu and pineapple, and Amaretto sours. 'Yes, I'll go out have a good time,' she declared. 'Why shouldn't I? And just like anybody my age, maybe I have woken up the next morning and said: "Whoo....that was a crazy night."
But she denied claims from Timberlake that she had cheated on him, and admitted being surprised that he had featured a Britney-lookalike who cheated on her boyfriend in his video for the hit song Cry Me A River.
'I was shocked to s***,' she admitted. 'First time I saw it I thought, "Oh my God, it's me!" It was a little weird, but if that's the way he has to deal with things, that's fine. But he never proposed to me - and I didn't cheat on him.'
She admitted kissing Farrell but said nothing had ever happened between her and Durst. And she revealed that she is now trying to enjoy being single - but she has her eye on married actors Tom Hanks and Brad Pitt.
'I could see myself marrying someone like Tom Hanks,' she said. 'He is so nice. He is the best father, a lovely family man. Someone like him or Brad Pitt. Brad probably more so.'
