Britney: I am ready for new romance

Britney Spears says she is ready for a new romance after finally getting over her split with Justin Timberlake.

But she says it would be difficult to find the right man to date.

"Either the guy is going to be really intimidated, or they are going to kiss your ass," she told People magazine.

"I am just a girl wanting a guy to love me."

Spears, 20, said the break up with NSync star Timberlake had taken a lot out of her.

"He was my first real love, and I doubt I will ever be able to love anyone like that again."

The couple recently tried to patch things up, but "right now in my life, it is not right," she said.

She shrugged off reports that she has had a "meltdown" following recent difficulties and said she was just taking a break.

And Spears, who famously boasted she would remain a virgin until she married, also said her days as a fresh scrubbed role model were over.

"Who cares if I have had sex? It is nobodys business. Trust me, I am not going to have a press conference to announce it."

Britney Spears mum has laid down the law in an effort to force her troubled daughter to ditch her wild lifestyle.

According to reports, Lynne Spears told Britney she was concerned about her extreme partying following the singers split from NSyncs Justin Timberlake.

Close friends of the 20-year-old claim she had lost control and went off the rails in an attempt to cushion the blow of the failed romance.

But the star has now promised family and friends she will make amends and take care of her body.

A friend explained to a newspaper: "Britney did not cope well with things when Justin dumped her.

"She was touring and hanging out with the wrong crowd and the partying did not stop when the tour ended.

"She was absolutely devastated and just got involved with the wrong people. As soon as she finished on the road, the party just continued back in Los Angeles.

"She was out most nights and would spend her time drinking and smoking with people older than her. She knows by partying hard she runs the risk of burning herself out.

"She has been reading about Madonnas fitness regime and how she loves yoga and now Britney has decided that she is going to take up the exercise too."

"Britney has realised that whatever she does she is still going to miss Justin. Justin has moved on and now must Britney. It has taken a while but now she is ready to start afresh."
