BRITNEY SPEARS and JUSTIN TROUSERSNAKE are close to rekindling the hottest romance in pop after going out on a secret date.
I can reveal that the pair met at the White Lotus nightclub in Hollywood on Friday night to talk things over.
The rendezvous means months of Britney begging her ex to see her again has finally paid off.
A source who watched the couple all evening said: “Britney and Justin arrived just before midnight.
“They sat together in a corner just talking and drinking. They looked like they were getting on well.
“They left together at around 2am and got into the same car with their bouncers and drove off in the direction of Britney’s house.”
A friend of Britney’s explained: “Britney is desperate to get back with Justin. They split up because she cheated on him and she regrets it more than anything in the world.
“She’s been asking Justin for ages if he’ll see her to let her explain how she feels. He has always given her the brush off — until now.”
Britney and Justin were the hottest couple in showbiz when they dated for four years after meeting as young stars of an American Disney TV show.
Both were heartbroken when the romance ended in May last year.
Former NSYNC star Justin even told the story of their break-up in the video to his hit single Cry Me A River.
But his grandmother, Sadie Bomar, recently told me: “Justin is still absolutely crazy about that girl. When they split up it was really hard on him.
“It’s always going to be hard when you break up with a girl you have loved most of your life, certainly all of your adult life. Justin worries about getting hurt again.”
Since the split Britney has transformed from squeaky-clean girl next door to party-loving rock chick.
She ditched her goody two-shoes image to date LIMP BIZKIT’s FRED DURST and Hollywood bad boy COLIN FARRELL.
And just last week I told you how the singer had been on dates with DJ MIKE KASEM.
But friends of Britney say the only man she really wants is Justin. Just before he jetted to the UK for the Brit Awards in February she turned up at his US hotel suite begging to be let in.
Justin, who performed a raunchy duet with KYLIE MINOGUE at the ceremony, told her to leave.
Britney’s pal added: “She still loves Justin and would do anything to get back with him.”
Britney and Justin could be getting back 2gether!
