Many People In America have tried a self-tanner at least once in theire life right? Well over half of them won't return to the bottle because they end up looking like A sunkist (sp) orange or a zebra or end up with huge blothches everywhere, but there is a cure!!! Like cooking a fancy little meal applying a self-tanner is easy but it come with many directions and take load of patience.
step 1: Exfoliate Exfolitate Exfoliate!!! I can't stress people enough on how important exfolating before tanning is. Exfoliating is the key to an awesome, streek-free natural looking tan. By enfoliating you are removing the dead skin cell sitting on top of you "living" skin. Without removing these dead skin cell, they will eventually flake away at some part and leave you looking not so pleasant so please please please exfoliate! Remember to dry your whole body before doing the next step. (Try an exfoliater containing honey or aloe. Located at any Drugstore: Try suave Body Exfoliater less than $2!)
step 2: Moisterize!!! Yup lotion can cure the self-tanning blues. First of all it even out the skin tone so you will get an even tan plus it won't sink in too much so that you'll look orange. Plus what harm can lotion do? Its awesome! REMINDER: Let the lotion sink in between 5-15 minutes.(Try: Jergen Body shimmer moisterizer: less than $6!)
step 3: Choosing the tanner that is right for you. Yup that right. Your friend may try a self-tanner and she'll look great but it may not work on you. You need to find the tanner that suit you the best. If you have a pale skin or medium type The Light and Medium kind will work best for you. If your skin is slightly a darker shade then medium The Dark kind will probally work best for you. After applying the tanner let it sink in for at least an hour and avoid making any contact with any type of fabrics during that time period and also avoid taking a bath, shower, or going swimming for at least three hours (according to most drugstore self-tanner). (My Favorite Drugstore Brand: Endless summer by Coppertone $11. My Favorite Department store brand: Estaue Lauders Fast Action spray ($28). Just some RECOMENDATION)
Tips:
- Don't take a hot shower before applying the self-tanner. It'll suck the moister (sp) right out of your skin
- Apply less of the lotion (or spray) to you knees and elbow because since those areas are generally really dry it sink in more making it loko orange.
- Avoid contact with hair. some products will bleach it.
- And please wash your hands immediately after using the self-tanner.
