Golden Globes fashion winners and losers.. | | Thought this was interesting from VH1.
Portia de Rossi of "Arrested Development" was the stunner of the night. In a Valentino dress and simple ponytail, she stood out among a sea of black and (surprisingly) purple in a wide-necked white short-sleeve dress with gold and pearl accents around the waist, finishing with a bow in the back.
Other head-turners included Nicole Kidman preening in a deep blue dress, which is fitting because it was adorned with a peacock feather; Minnie Driver wore a deep-V-necked silver lace dress with a trainlike back panel; Jennifer Garner made it out to the festivities in a vintage backless red tank dress with a ruffled can-can-esque skirt; and Felicity Huffman of "Desperate Housewives" wore a nude bejeweled dress à la Britney Spears.
A spate of purple people (no eaters in this bunch) roamed the Globes' red carpet. Mekhi Phifer mixed casual and formalwear with a black tuxedo with a two-tone purple striped shirt, black tie and deep purple pocket square. Virginia Madsen of "Sideways" wore a simple lavender Calvin Klein halter dress, while Denis Leary also got in on the act in a black suit with a pale lavender tie. Mariska Hargitay donned a satin column Vera Wang dress, Claire Danes and Kristin Davis both wore plunging plum numbers, and Cate Blanchett was bedecked in a grape-hued, high-necked, one-sleeve Jean Paul Gaultier dress with flowers adorning her chest, waist and train. Laura Linney just squeaked into this category by the inclusion of a small purple flower on the strap of her black dress.
Though they looked good, most of the guys boringly opted for the classic black suit, white shirt, black-tie get-up. Among them, Tim Robbins, Jeffrey Tambor, Julian McMahon from "Nip/Tuck," William H. Macy, Topher Grace, Leonardo DiCaprio, Kevin Spacey, Orlando Bloom, Paul Giamatti, Will Ferrell, Kiefer Sutherland and David Cross, who embellished his, for better or for worse, with a vest and a set of chains linking both sides of his collar.
At least Samuel L. Jackson gave the classic look a little personality by sporting a velvet tuxedo jacket.
The guys who decided to go out on a limb opted for either all black or navy blue. Daring, dudes.
Mos Def and his shorn head wore a black suit with muted polka dots, a black shirt, and a green-and-crimson pocket square. Also in funereal gear were Will Arnett ("Arrested Development"), Ewan McGregor, Don Cheadle, Usher, Debra Messing in a simple black tank dress and wrap, Renée Zellweger in a black strapless dress with two velvet stripes on the bodice, and Eva Longoria ("Desperate Housewives"), who wore a short black strapless dress with eyelet and tulle details on the skirt.
Meanwhile, Jamie Foxx wore a black suit with a navy shirt and a tattoo adorning the back of his head, Jeremy Piven of "Entourage" wore a slim navy suit paired with a silver tie, and Dennis Haysbert from "24" wore a navy suit with an electric blue tie.
Some of the more daring outfits that failed included Paula Abdul's peach strapless dress with a gold sequined asymmetrical skirt and Robin Williams' (no shock here) cropped tuxedo jacket with tails and a lumpy silver bowtie. And finally — though Mr. Blackwell may disagree, this is MTV's game now — Teri Hatcher's silver halter dress was more desperate than her TV show is. |
