Okay, here was another theory I had regarding the new single/album, but when I shared it with Lyndsay, she didn't think it was true, so I brushed it off as it being ridiculous. However, I was surfing the MuchMusic Boards, and on kid there said that Britney has switched record labels.
Do you think that is possible? I mean, everybody was speculating that the Greatest Hits would be her last Jive release, and maybe Britney has found a new place to call her home?! It's very possible that she could do it without us knowing, as she recorded half an album without us having a clue.
At the same time, we probably would've heard about her terminating her JIVE contract. So my guess is, if anything happened, she's changed record companies within the Sony BMG Entertainment Group.
I do want to stress the
if, however. At this point, this is just speculation.
Just for reference, this is the quote I've based this on:

This will be Britney's 6th cd. So I am guessing she is not "fading away" lol. And this song is written by her. She is writing the cd. She changed her record label because Jive didn't let her write her cd's. hmmm

EDIT: More interesting album news from our friend mikihendupop:

Actually the song wont be a single. It is just a sneak peak of her new album. The whole cd is written by Britney and co produced.

It was Greatest Hits and she did not promote it. She just relesed it to end her 5 album contract with Jive. SO she could move on to other record label. Now she is her own manager since she fired Larry Rudoplh and writing her own songs. She even co produced "Mona Lisa".

I'm not quite sure where this mikihendupop is getting his/her information, but it is interesting.
