Nelly Furtado Cuts Loose

Timbaland, Pharrell, Scott Storch lend beats to Canadian crooner's latest

"The first day we were jamming, the speaker actually caught fire -- seriously," says Canadian songbird Nelly Furtado, who jetted down to Miami to record Loose, the follow-up to 2003's Folklore, with hip-hop hitmaker Timbaland.
Timbo, who ended up producing more than half of the record's fourteen tracks, is just one of several stars Furtado recruited for the disc (due this spring), a group that also includes Pharrell Williams, Scott Storch and Shakira producer Lester Mendez, who worked on the Spanish-language reggaeton-style "No Hay Igual."

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin stopped by the studio in August when he was in town for MTV's Video Music Awards to add vocals to "All Good Things Come to an End." "He loves Timbaland, and Timbaland loves Coldplay," says Furtado. "It was like a match made in heaven. The two of them just looked like two kids in a candy store."

The potential first single is "Promiscuous Girl," a club track with a Timbaland beat and Furtado flipping rhymes about celebrating your inner slut. "This phase in my life is all about feel," says Furtado, describing the song's sexy, slow-jam vibe. "I'm more in touch with my emotions and my body, so the music is really dance-oriented."

Furtado, who isn't currently in a relationship, attributes this newfound body-consciousness to her daughter, Nevis, who was born in 2003: "I think when you first become a mother, you reclaim your body a little bit."

I'll always respect her harmonic abilities and flat out raw talent, but I was disappointed with Promiscuous Girl. The first time I saw it, I didnt think it was her, then I hoped it wasnt her, but alas she slutted herself out. So she's trying to get as much cokk as possible? Awesome, but it brought my respecting her as a, well, respectable woman down some notches. I dont think she had to slut out to the media-sexed demographic intentionally aimed at us young folk, so potent in the industry nowadays. I loved her more with Like A Bird and so did many of my homies [we like those hos, just dont love or respect em, kudos Miss Monroe & Madonna]. She should leave the trashy shyt to Trina, Lil Kim, that tard 'Mimi' and other proud whores. Poor sweetness, what happened? I kind of still cant believe it, of course like other women she's free to express her sexuality, but coming out and basically saying 'I'm a ho....lets dance' is the sugar coated rendition of saying 'fukk me, i'm a slut' whilst doing porn mag spreads, and I do mean spreads .
I'm tired of walking double standards that love to flaunt their promiscuity, but still maintain an "I'm not a slut" attitude, YES, you are damn slut, now off with all the cheap pointless accessories and spread that money damn it. Majority of guy's agenda is to bang as many chicks as possible, n I thought girl's was at most 5-10% the same idea while still trying to keep it tight, now even with "nice girls" its like 'wtf, you lying ho you aint a damn virgin!'. Man how I miss the old Nelly, I mean, she still couldv'e done something sexy while keeping it classy, and sort of natural like A Bird. A message to the ladies, if your'e emulating what all these industry pop-hos are doing, do us dudes a favor and dont sugarcoat how much of a slut you are; out of the blue - wave that twat in our faces out in public, tell us out loud you want us deep inside you all night, and flash that pink at "inappropriate" times, to finally cease the bs & games, if not, please just be a lady.
