Has Britney Gone Too Far?

Madonna has teamed up with Britney Spears for the sexy duet, "Me Against the Music." However, many are wondering if it's Britney against the music, as the pop star continues to bare more than her soul. Has Britney gone too far with her new sexy image?

"There's quite a few people who think what Britney's doing is OK. I think it's OK," Nelly told Access.

"I don't think there's any right or wrong of it. It's just what people are, what their talent is and what people want to buy," said Jewel.

At 21 years old, Britney has sold more than 52 million CDs. That's more than Janet, Beyonce and Faith Hill. But, is it her sex appeal or musical talent that's selling albums?

"Sex over substance, yeah," said Carson Daly. "She's always been a performer and just like Madonna, not known for her impeccable five-octave range. So I think as she transitions into a young woman, which she already is, she's going to go through these stages of re-inventing."

When Britney was 18, in an interview with Access Hollywood's Nancy O'Dell, she talked about her idol Madonna and about stripping down for the camera.

"Is Madonna your idol?" asked Nancy.

"Yes, she is my idol. I love her," said Britney.

"You're not going to pop up posing nude anywhere?" asked Nancy.

"No, no," said Britney.

Times have certainly changed for Britney since three years ago. Britney leaves little to the imagination on the latest covers of Esquire and Rolling Stone magazines and a backlash is already underway. The wife of Maryland Governor Kendel Ehrlich made a shocking comment about the superstar.

"If I had an opportunity to shoot Britney Spears, I think I would," said Ehrlich in reference to the sexier image Britney is portraying.

Ehrlich later publicly apologized. "I really regret making the statement. It was off-handed, it was in jest," said Ehrlich.

With her new CD "In the Zone" out Nov. 18, the question is: Can Britney still sell? Newsweek music critic Lorraine Ali spent the day with Britney for the magazine and was one of the first to hear her new CD.

"The album is really surprisingly good," said Ali. "[On] this album she's got some great people she's working with. She worked with Moby, she worked with R. Kelly. It's a great club album and her voice is just kind of a nice decoration on the top of it, basically."

3 years ago..people change, but Brit is still sweet and nice even though her public image is different. she has realized she's the boss

I didn't see anything "bull"ish about that article. Britney has changed. That's what the article is stressing. As for her going too far, I think she has. It's really nice not having Nesbit around anymore for him to yell and scream about his sacred cow. Take a few steps back from complete insanity.

I just don't think it's fair to Britney for ppl to say that they want to shoot her for being a bad role model,Britney's all ready said that she doesn't want to be a role model.I just think it's wrong for ppl to hit her w/this "new image",role model crap.It's Britney's life,let Britney live it how she wants.

Ya know,some ppl think Britney has gone too far,and thats ok,i'm not getin' like this because of the ppl who think she's gone to far,cuz well maybe she has,but thats just your own lil perference,there's not a wrong or right answer,all i'm sayin is that the media and kids moms should just get off of Brit's back.Britney is not a role model,or atleast she doesn't wanna be.

I'm sorry if I didn't make myself clear earlier.

I think what's sad is that there are STILL fans who think that nothing negative should be written or published about Britney. Not everyone likes everything...how hard is that to grasp? Not everyone likes the same food, not everyone likes the same pop, not everyone likes the same TV shows and not everyone likes the same music artists. And yeah, there probably are more people out there with a negative attitude abolut Britney than a positive one. But think about it, Britney has only done things in the past few months that are supporting that negative attitude. She was supposedly going to make this big, greater than ever comeback from her year or so off and how does she do that? With nude/revealing pics? That doesn't really make a lot of people want to give her credibility or a chance to change their minds about her. There was also an article posted on here about how nervous she was that the album would do really bad and not go over well...so instead of taking more time and focusing on her music and singing, she strips down to nothing to get people's attention hoping that when they really hear her CD, it won't matter that it's not that great and just focus on the amazingly hot shots she did for Q and Esquire.

Now just to clarify here, I'm not saying her music is shiity. From what I've heard, personally it doesn't really appeal to me all that much, but things can change. All I'm saying is that from what I've seen and read of her in the past few months, she doesn't seem to confident in her music, so why should the general public? She seems to be trying to draw attention away from her music and towards her as a sex symbol in order to stay on top and sell records. And while I really have no problem with that, Britney needs to establish herself as a creditible artist, not just someone who can dance well, not just an entertainer. Even Madonna's carear is fading and has been for quite some time now. A person could have the greatest stylist and PR rep, but if they really have no substance, they're not going to last long. People eventaully get fed up with the fakeness of some people in the entertainment industry.

I think that's about it...sorry I went off on such a rant...
