Britney's new movie slammed by critics

HOLLYWOOD, December 26, 2001 -- London journalists who have gotten the first glimpse of Crossroads, Britney Spears' new movie about three friends on a road trip after their high school graduation, are slamming the coming-of-age teen drama.

While the film might finally lay to rest Spears' virginal image, it may also shatter the pop star's dreams of making in big in Hollywood, reports London's The Mirror.

Crossroads stars Spears as a straight-A student who has grown apart from her two best friends, a "burnout" and a cheerleader. The threesome get together for a cross-country trip after graduation and meet a musician who talks them into going to Los Angeles to compete in a musical contest.

The movie starts off with Spears dancing on her bed in her underwear to a Madonna tune and includes a scene in which she pole-dances in a club.

The movie's climax, however, is what will leave her young fans--and their parents--up in arms: Spears' character Lucy loses her virginity to an ex-con. According to The Mirror, the two lovebirds peel off their clothes on a hotel balcony then head for the bedroom.

The film deals with other issues that may surprise Spears' prepubescent fan base, including rape, underage drinking, sex and teen pregnancy.

One source told the Daily Star, "There's a lot of enthusiasm for Britney so there's been a lot of emphasis on the film's bad script and bad music. But there's no denying Britney is bad herself."

One scene even features Spears singing 'N Sync's hit "Bye Bye Bye."

Crossroads opens February 15 and also stars Taryn Manning, Zoe Saldana and Anson Mount.

HOLLYWOOD (Zap2it.com) - Britney Spears was in Cannes, France at the 36th annual Midem music market to promote her feature film debut "Crossroads" and addressed reports of critics laughing at the teen road drama at a London screening.

"Everything the critics like, I hate," countered the 20-year-old pop princess who was scantily clad despite the nippy weather, according to Variety.

Funny. "N Sync's Lance Bass took a similar line when addressing his big screen debut "On the Line's" inclusion on Roger Ebert and Richard Roeper's "Worst of 2001" list.

"Crossroads" opens Feb. 15, just in time for Valentine's Day.

I'm going to go see the movie anyway...I'm not looking for a friggen masterpiece.....I'm looking for a cute, fun movie with Britney in it! And I'm sure that's what we'll get. Anything that Dan Akroyd and the lady from Sex in The City are in (kim catrell or something?...i forget) can't be that bad...cause they are both awesome as well...

it's sad that the media pays so much attention to things that are not big deals at all compared to things that should have emphasis on...hopefully one day people will realize this.

I'm going to watch it. But, no, I don't think they were being mean. They were just giving their honest opinions, and saying what was going to go on in the movie.

It doesn't sound like they were being mean to me, at all.......I don't see where you people who say this are getting such ideas.

It just sounded like they were giving an account of what was going to happen in the movie, and then giving their opinions on what the mass audience would think about it, and what it would possibly do to Britney's career. If you think about it, there is some logic behind that.

-----not saying you have to agree with them,.....just saying that it is sometimes good to get an alternative perspective on things. Not everyone is a Britney fan. In fact, I'd say the vast majority of people ARE NOT:expoints: We Britney fans are in the minority, so it shouldn't surprise you if her movie doesn't do as well as you want it to.

Sure, I'd love for her movie to be dubbed "the best movie of all time", or something like that, but I have to be honest with myself and the surroundings and other people and realize that that probably isn't going to happen.

This doesn't mean the movie isn't the best movie of all time, or that it won't be, but it just means that there are more people who are NOT Britney fans than there are people who are, and, if 100% of Britney fans watch and like the movie, then that means we're probably less than 25% of the people, which means there's a good 75% of the people who will just hate it just because it's Britney

the critics liked some really bad movies, i mean they liked the english patient and it sucked, everything that I like they think is a bunch of crap, so what if they think Britney sux as an actress, I will still see it and so will 50 or so more million people

If I don't like it, I don't like it- but I'm going to see it. And just because it does have Britney in it, it doesn't mean it's going to be great- but even still, I'll see it. But the thing some people have to realize (critics, mainly), is that this is her first movie- if it isn't all the success we as fans or Britney herself could hope for, she's learning something- and practise can only make perfect.

yeah the critics are so damn dumb. I think they were dropped on there head's when they were babies. LOL they have bad taste in movie's like Traffic and all those other corny movies that make you confused and by the end it's like what was the point of it. Crossroads actually has a Plot and they see Britney is in it and automatically reply with bad comments. No matter what anyone say's I am still going to see it.
