ContactMusic.com: The woman who married BRITNEY SPEARS in Las Vegas has hit out at claims the pop singer was drunk during the 5am ceremony.

REVEREND CHAROLETTE RICHARDS has leapt to the defence of the TOXIC star, who has been plagued with rumours regarding her sobriety ever since her whirlwind 55-hour marriage to school pal JASON ALEXANDER last year (03JAN04).

Spears - now married to KEVIN FEDERLINE - had the union annulled, sparking speculation alcohol was to blame for her poor judgement.

But Richards insists, "Trust me, she wasn't drunk when she got married. The fact is, she is very rich and didn't have a prenuptial agreement.

"She has a dream to be loved and cared for - it just didn't work out first time."

Doesn't that make it worse? It shows how dumb she was as opposed to being under the influence and doing something dumb.

I was just wondering what happened, cuz I found that article with Jason and he and Britney (supposedly) broke up because of Lynne? I don't get it. I wouldn't be surprised... I hope she was drunk.

Even if someone WAS drunk, I don't see them actually going out and getting married. Talking about it, yes but actually doing it? I don't see a drunk person being like, "Let's get married" and actually going out and doing it, maybe that's just me. But then again, when you're in Vegas...who knows. But didn't the court house say that they were sure she was in control of herself otherwise they wouldn't have given them the marraige liscense?
