Britney Spears' "Stronger" and Mary J. Blige's "Keep Your Head" have been remixed and included on Songs for Life, a new compilation to help raise money and awareness to fight the spread of AIDS in fourteen sub-Saharan countries in Africa.
The set, due July 22nd, was overseen by producer Phil Ramone, who included a cross-section of old and new material tied together by themes of hope and strength. Two John Lennon songs ("Power to the People" and "Hard Times Over Now") and Paul Simon's "Under African Skies" are among the older material. New songs were contributed by Aretha Franklin (whose "Angel" features a guest spot by K-Ci and Jo Jo) and Carole King ("You Will Find Me There").
South African producer Cedric Samson produced a trio of songs for the album: "Follow It Through" by countryman Jonathan Butler, "Sacred Pledge" by Patti LaBelle with George Benson and Miriam Makeba and "Children of All Nations" by Makeba with Judy Collins, Billy Gilman and Dynasty.
Proceeds from the album will benefit the Royal Initiative to Combat AIDS.
