Britney made my dream come true
Billy Ellis tells M all about the day he got to meet Britney Spears
Tons of kids dream of meeting their favorite popstar, but not very many actually get to. Billy Ellis, 15, of Sarasota, Florida, can say that his dream actually came true. See, Billy was born with only one kidney and the kidney didn't work very well, so he needed to have a transplant. Thanks to The Marty Lyons Foundation, Billy was able to meet Britney Spears shortly before his operation. Billy and his family traveled to Louisiana where Britney was speaking at a cancer-awareness rally (Britney's aunt Sandra has been battling ovarian cancer_. Today, Billy is feeling a lot better. Here, he tells M his story, in his own words:
"I always thought she was talented"
Back when I first saw Britney Spears, I thought she was amazing because of the way she dances and sings. I thought, "Wow, she's really good! I really want to meet her one day." Then when I was in the hospital, I was told I could apply to have a wish granted, and I thought, "I really like Britney, so I think I'll wish to meet her." When I found out I was actually going to get to, I was hysterical!
"I was nervous"
The foundation flew me and my family to Louisiana to meet Britney. On Sunday, March 2, we were driven from our hotel to a hospital in Baton Rouge where she was scheduled to speak at a cancer-awareness rally. Britney and her family were in a conference room, and we walked in and there she was! I went up to her and gave her roses. I was really nervous, and I could hardly speak. The only question I could get out was, "Have you ever gone to Mardi Gras?" She gave me a big smile and said that she had. She asked me about my upcoming operation and seemed concerned. She was really nice and down to earth. I think she looks even prettier in person than on TV. She was wearing jeans and a white blouse and seemed more normal looking and less like a star than in her videos. We all talked for about a half hour, and then we had to leave to go back home. Meeting Britney was unbelievable. I'll always reply her smile. |
