Avril: Britney has herself to blame - Eternal Allegiance

Pop princess Avril Lavigne has hit out at troubled singer Britney Spears and says the American star cannot blame the media for her problems.

The 22-year-old Canadian, who is married to fellow punker Deryck Whibley from band Sum 41, believes Britney, currently divorcing hubby Kevin Federline, has only herself to blame for her public meltdown.

"What's happened to Britney is all down to who she is as a person. If you want a piece of this business you have to be able to deal with it," the Sk8er Boi singer said in comments reported by Wenn.

Britney, best known for smash hits such as Baby One More Time and Toxic, filed for divorce from Kevin in November and weeks of partying with celebrity buddy Paris Hilton and strange behaviour, including the popstar shaving her hair off in a California salon, followed the separation.

The 25-year-old singer recently completed a four-week programme in a Malibu rehabilitation centre to help fight her demons.

Yet Avril thinks tabloid pressures are pretty simple. "You can't complain about the pressures, the paparazzi, the madness because that's the job," she added.

She's only speaking the truth. You wanna be famous? Then you gotta do all the stuff that goes along with it. "If you can't stand the heat...get outta the kitchen".

Avril needs to stop running her mouth. Who is she to judge? no one knows whats going on in Britneys head apart from her and God and thats that...people need to understand that we dont know everything and its not always the things that are public that drive people to self destruct.

I think Avril was amazing on her 1st two albums, the songs were so interesting and well thought about. She really showed she was different. But when i heard and saw the video for Girlfriend i was kinda dazzed cause she had changed from what i loved. She was blonde and more poppy! Its very colourful and cheery and suprised me. But i guess she is grower older and finding herself, but if she is grower older why is her music sounding more childish????. Maybe she's a bit of a pop princess now but she still gets my respect. And as for her sticking it to britney, i don't agree with her, because everyone has their problems and we are all weak at one point or another. So, Avril.......Lay off Brit!

i understand what avril means - i agree with her BUT there's just a FINE LINE that some people need to stop crossing to get that "Sell-out" picture and bs

I like her music, and I think she's pretty..
But everytime she talks about another celebrity (which is usually in a critical, nonsupportive tone), it makes her look ugly. I hate people who talk trash.

She thinks of her self a great critic .It is always easy to find flaws in the others.
