Evolution is far from a proven fact. In fact nothing in science is indisputable. To me, evolution is the spontaneous generation of our lifetime. It's possible that people get so caught up in the either/or debate of evolution vs. creationism that any evidence to a possible third explanation is discarded. Ideology trumps any honest inquiry into the question.

As for the article, I dont think it is a bad thing for a kid to feel passionate about religion or a particular issue. What worries me is that parents and political parties try to brainwash kids into believing that their party is the only outlet looking out for them (which we all know isn't the case). It's a trend in this nation to focus on soundbytes rather than critical thinking and that is frightening. That's why someone like Bush gets a warm reception at a pro-life rally when he is in reality the antithesis of it. You know instead of buying some lame book just teach your child critical thinking, your values and practice them. Let a kid be a kid, there is plenty of time for politics later.

But I also believe that allowing this, you should also teach them to keep an open mind to everything. Children today are a lot smarter then back then. Some kids are learning about politics in school just by learning about US History or World History. Which may catch their attention and may be something that interests them. As long as they are involving themselves in something that's not self distructive, I'm all for it. Just...keep the open mind.
See, it is one thing for a child to actively search out things such as politics. It is quite another for the political parties to TRY to involve the kids in politics. I am not against the former but am vehemently against the latter.

Also, to Jess, there is a reason why evolution is termed a "theory", and that reason is NOT because evolution is proven fact. (If it were to be proven fact, there would need to exist 100% indisputable evidence for it and 100% indisputable evidence for the impossibility of any other explanation, which there obviously is not, as it only holds status of a theory) I encourage you to not just accept evolution but to first research into it, including conflicting views on it and debates, analyse and take into consideration every point made for each side and, if afterwards you still find it to be correct in your mind, then accept it, and if not, then reject it.

That's why I asked in the form of a question

Isn't evolution proven?
Because I wasn't sure
