Maybe the US gov. doesn't want it to look like bribery or quid pro quo... you know, they wanna have it so it isn't so materialistic... which is BS anyway, because it is.

SOrry to say but f*ck the economy! really. those innocent animals live too and kiling them just because you people cant get other fish to get money thats really bad! there are also alot of people in this world who eat things.. we dont kill them either because they eat things and thats bad for some countries economy!
BEtter leave the wales out of the money problem and go find some other thing to make money off!

^problem is,if they don't kill the whales a lot of PEOPLE will starve. They arent' going to kill whales for the hell of it they are killing so they can EAT.Its not nearly as cruel as people who kill for SKINS of animals or chase rabbits or whatever they do.I'm all for saving the environment and eve3rything but when it comes to an entire coutnry of peoples's welfare I don't have a lot of sympathy.sorry

Why doesn't anybody do something about the fact that they eat dogs in China ?

Any other nation would do the same thing.. including the US and the Netherlands.

i didnt say that! People who kill animals just to make money of it are all bad! and yes they do kill anymals in my country thats just a easy question you probebly allready knew the answer of. maybe, but thats because some people who lead a goverment only see dollarsigns in their eyes when seeing an animal, and dont see the animal itself.

And since when are animals so innocent... many animals kill other animals or humans.. Its all part of how nature works.

This kind of whale is not even close to becomming extinct here in Iceland, period! We probably couldn't even do it if we would try since its such a small nation.

Atleast we don't kill PEOPLE for the economy like some nations!!!

Liselotte- are you a vegetarian? Because if you aren't you are contributing to the killing of poor animals for food. The cows people eat have souls too. SO do pigs. For that matter so do chickens sodon't eat eggs! Or Ice Cream, etc.
I can see your stance on this, I agree killing animals just for the heck of it is wrong and cruel, but they aren't trying to wipe out a species, they are doing this for a matter of survival. IF they don't a lot of jobs in Iceland will be lost, and there will be children out there starving because of the whales that ate all the fish that the Icelandians(?? not sure how to say it} depend on. Their econmy isn't like the uS's which is very diverse, they only have pretty much one thing to survive on.
Anyways, if you look at it in the way of the circle of life, nature is cruel. Have you ever seen a lion rip into a antelope? Its cruel! Thats the way nature was intended to be-eat or be eaten. The antelope has feelings, but you won't catch a lion eating grass to spare an antelope!

And by the way it was like 90% of the economy not so many years ago so Its getting better... many great ideas to make it go all the way down to 1/3 in the next decades... but AT THE MOMENT its 70% and we can't just ignore that and save the whales
