yeah i don't care about the nationality either, yeah Pope John Paul could speak many languages as i remember, and Benedict XVI i heard he could speak 8 languages and on cnn they said the he speakes really well in English and Italien.

Why do they chose people so old? doesnt make sense

thats why question as well, but what i noticed that some of Cardinals are not very young there at least in there 50s something like that.

He wasn't a Nazi ,but was in the Hitler Youth because it was mandatory at the time. However, he deserted his military post. Later, the Allies used his home as their headquarters and imprisoned him as a German soldier.

I missed the smoke ,but fortunately got to see the announcement live. Pope Benedict XVI seems like a good choice and we will see what kind of leadership he will bring. It is way premature to condemn him already without even giving him a chance as some are.

Oh come on, I really doubt it. I think all youth of that time was forced to be in the youth party things. That does not mean he supported what they did at all.

I have to agree with Errick, I'm glad that I got to witness this event. Something I will remember for a while. The church bells were going CRAZY here in Catholic country, lol. I thought the windows were going to explode.

I don't understand why they choose Popes that are so old already and might not be around to long. How old was John Paul II when he was elected?
