Chanting in favour of the family and children's rights, demonstrators waved colourful ballons and flags.
The protest was led by 20 Roman Catholic bishops, conservative opposition leaders and the Spanish Forum for the Family. Ahead of the protest, deputy socialist Prime Minister Maria Teresa Fernandez de la Vega defended the bill and accused protesters of discrimination, saying their actions meant they wanted the rights they enjoyed to be denied to others.
She said that the new law "does not oblige anyone to do anything they don't want to do". The bill is expected to become law in a matter of weeks after it is voted on next week by the Senate. According to opinion polls, most people in Spain support the bill.
But demonstrators were angry at what they called the degradation of the institution of marriage and the fact that gay couples may adopt.
I think this is so stupid. | must be pretty stupid that people can protest about what they want to, even if you dont agree with it. |

I dont think Ireland would want to pass that bill. After all, Ireland did ban "Losing My Religion" because of the moral of the song. Plus Abortion is pretty much outlawed there from what I've heard.
But if you mean that It would react in protest, then yes, I agree, it would. |

| Well, If Spain is so catholic, why are they allowing Gay Marriges?
Ugh, Im sorry, I just dont see how people can believe something, then contradict it with their words. It just makes no sense to me. |

| All I have to say now is: I loved John Paul SO much more, despite him being against certain things, he was never this much of a prick. While I don't like the Pope either PLEASE be respectful. <3

| I like this idea. It shows that although that, most likely, the majority of the government is Catholic, they still believe in tolerance and human rights that should be given despite sexual orientation.
I don't think a job in the government is doing what's right in your religion. It's more doing what's right in your place that is also right for your country. However, I don't know. Maybe Spain is just a sole religion country. Maybe it's for the best if this never happens to save the Catholic population from seeing a couple together and giving a foster child a home. |

Then why do Christians "claim" to be Christians and are against Gay Marriage? Doesn't the Bible say not to judge? Don't you only have to worry about your own sins? |

Don't you only have to worry about your own sins? | Letting a certain group of people not get married isn't considered Judging. If I started calling them names, then its judging, but because a majority doesn't allow them doesn't mean its judging.
Thats the same thing as your parent telling you not to eat cookies out of a cookie jar, right? You wont say, Dont Judge me because she doesn't let you eat cookies.
Same thing with marrige, If you dont want a certain group to get married, its not considered judging. If you were to say I dont want those this and that gay people to get married, then thats considered judging. Please dont label my opinions as 'judgements' because you disagree with them. |
