Wow thats really good news all passengers could get out safely! Normally all you hear after a plane crash is that all people died, so this is really good news to hear

The weather yesterday was extremely bad, and something I haven't seen for a while in Toronto. I'm not surprised in the least that it occured. I live about 10 km from the airport directly under the flight path of the runway where this accident happened.

Thankfully no one was killed.

Eerily enough 20 years to the day Delta flight 191 crashed at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport under similar conditions. Unlike what happened yesterday, 136 people died that day.

Planes get struck by lightning all the time, so I doubt that would have caused although it's possible.

It's been speculated that the runway was so wet from the downpour that the aircraft was unable to get traction on it and hydroplaned.

Eye witnesses were saying that immediately after (one emphasized immediately) there was black smoke coming from the plane after the lightning struck. And one said that was trails of fire on the runway. I don't assume that would've been caused by hydroplaning.

Like I said, it's possible. Certainly the heavy rain didn't help with matters.
