Like I said, I could totally be wrong about how this all came about. I don't know for sure this is a religious thing, but that's partly how I took it. Also, not everyone follows that guideline that I mentioned. As my professor explained it, just like in Christianity, there are some people who feel that the ways of the past are the right ways to do things and so they stick to them or try to as much as they can. I agree that it should be the person who did the "wrong" thing who gets the punishement.

Islam really isn't a sexist religion...if anything they protect their women more than a lot of other religions in my opinion. Last semester in my Islam class the professor gave us a really interesting article on how the Christian religion, in the begining, was VERY sexist towards women and how there are places in the Bible that pretty much trash women left and right. I know I printed it out but I'll see if I can find a link to it. And in this case, it happens to be a woman, but the logic behind all of it would go for a man as well. If Man A killed Man B's son...then Man A's son would have to pay also. And yeah, that gets back to the whole thing of "well Man A's son is the innocent one here." Yes, he is and I don't think it's right to punish HIM for it but...yeah.

Again, I wasn't trying to justify the actions taken in Pakistan, I was just trying to shed some cultural light on it.
Yes, I get that you aren't trying to justify the actions.

I wasn't saying that the religion is sexist or what not, because I really don't know the religion well enough to know if it is or not... a lot of the people I've talked to have said it isn't, and they practice it, so I think it's a matter of if you want to distort it to appear sexist, then it can be...Most religious documents are very open to interpretation, and if someone has an agenda, there is probley a passage that they can claim backs it up.

Just like people distort the Bible to show that man is better than woman. And yes, parts of the Bible are sexist, and the church I grew up in fully believed in it. They taught the whole "man is the provider, woman stays at home and bares the children, honors the man , the man treats her as a child and his opinion counts more" bit. Thats one reason I left organized religion in the first place.

In the Old Testament of the Bible, it was sort of like this "an eye for an eye". Thank God for Jesus because I'm sure if he didn't come around there would have been a lot of Christians going around trying to do just that..

I don't have ANY problem with people from different religions... but this is just...wrong. I cant believe a woman was ordered gang raped... Uhhh. I am so thankful I live in the US right now.
