Default O'Connor Retires From U.S. Supreme Court

WASHINGTON - Sandra Day O'Connor, the first woman on the Supreme Court and a swing vote on abortion as well as other contentious issues, announced her retirement Friday. A bruising Senate confirmation struggle loomed as President Bush pledged to name a successor quickly. "It has been a great privilege indeed to have served as a member of the court for 24 terms," the 75-year-old justice wrote Bush in a one-paragraph resignation letter. "I will leave it with enormous respect for the integrity of the court and its role under our constitutional structure."

And then there's this:

Quote:
The future of Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist, ailing with cancer and the focus of retirement speculation, is still up in the air.

Oh joy. Let's hope that by some miracle decent people make it to the bench.

Well, If by decent you mean non-conservative people - that wont be happening anytime soon. Since the President is still in office, there will be more conservative judges appointed. Which, in my opinion, is a good thing.

Yay. More conservatives. Just what this country needs. Why not just kill us all off? The more conservatives elected, the less freedom this nation has.

Thats the exact same rederic that divided the whole nation. Its not like you and I live in the same country.. I mean, Its not possible, right? Someone else thinks differently from you. If thats the way that you're going to keep thinking, then thats just what spreads the nation further and further apart. "Just Kill us all".. wtf? Its a Judge thats being appointed, not a killer moving into your house. Unnesessary comment. What was the last freedom you had taken away? You can still say/do whatever you want, ect. You saying that further spreads the stereo-type that republicans dont like freedom, when really, Republicans are for limitted government.

Look, all Im saying is that dont be so hostile and rude to people who you disagree with. Sometimes all of us forget that at the end of the day, we all live in the same country. Its important to set our differences aside and work together as one nation, rather than sit here and harrass eachother over and over again.

Well a Republican president is no guarantee of conservative appointees; history has proven that. It would be great if Justices conservative to the Constitution were appointed. Unfortunately, the Bush administration seems to surpass every low expectation.

Well here is one: the goverment is holding Americans accused of terrorism incommunicado and violating their Constitutional rights.

Oh and don't forget the legislation giving law enforcement more powers with even less oversight.

HOly crap. I was hoping she could wait until Bush was safely out until retiring. If the other guy dies we are SCREWED. I know what will happen, abortion will be banned and chaos will ensue.

George drop that "We're all in it together" crap. Everyone knows that our freedoms have been taken away since Bush was in office, and that if two more conservatives get elected (especially HIS brand of conservatism) a lot more will be gone too.

Limited goverment control my butt.

Okay. Lets all act like both sides will cause chaos and lets all dislike eachother because of disagreements. Its almost as if you're enjoying the fact that we're so divided.

And you say "Abortions being outlawed" like its not a good thing. 42 Million kids could have been born from 1972-2005. That could have even helped the tax problems we're having today.

I cant believe some people prefer to be divided than together. Please dont say - the only way the country will become united is when a Liberal President/Judge is appointed, because that wont solve anything. The more extremists there will be on the ends of both parties, the further the country will go.

I will never support this President, and I won't pretend to. And actually, it's the elections and the people wanting Bush out of office because he's an idiot fucking up the country and it's people by starting pointless wars against people who really aren't a threat to us, and in a country where what they do is THEIR business, not ours. Democracy wasn't their way, yet he felt the need to shove it down their throats. Way to go, Bush. Now EVERY country hates us. Yes. Every country. But, nobody is willing to tell that to trigger-happy Bush, because they know we have the firearm power to whoop their ass, and Bush would be quick to send 500,000 troops to a pointless cause so they can die for a pointless war.

Actually, keeping Bush in office is what's spreading this nation further apart. And, of course, Bush supporters, the people who jump down your throat because we think he's fucked up one too many times. So yeah, its all the people who don't support YOUR President who are dividing the nation. REALITY CHECK, PLEASE. It seems everyone who doesn't support Bush is the problem here. I'm thinking....not.

IN YOUR OPINION it was an unnecessary comment, however the more people Bush elects into any government office that thinks like he does, is a doomed outcome for this nation, and then we're all just royally fucked. Sure, he can send us to a freakin death sentence fighting for this country so that he can go hide in a bomb shelter underground. So heroic. Bastard.

Gee, if I have to answer that one, then you really haven't read ANY thing I've said in regards to his policies and outlooks and beliefs.

Well, when they stop implying it by making stupid decisions telling me what I can and cannot do as far as my life or lifestyle goes, then I'll quit saying so. But, it'll never happen.

HAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!! You should really do stand-up, cause that's the biggest pile of dog doo I've EVER read.

If you consider my comment hostile and rude, then man up dude. Man up. Because it wasn't directed to you personally, it was directed at my hatred for the Conservative point of view. Being that I didn't personally attack anyone, if that comment offended you or was hostile in your eyes, then good.

That makes no sense. It's our difference that keep us from being able to work together, because Bush isn't putting aside the fact that there is such a thing as being gay, and that they deserve every right as anyone else. THAT is just ONE of the many ways we CAN'T work together with that prick in office. I'm not part of a redneck agenda. Thank God for Green Day.

Deal. Because apparently you don't comprehend very well, otherwise this comment would not have been made.

Yet again, something else that DIVIDES this country because the redneck in office doesn't believe a human being should have the right to choose what happens in their life, he believes he should dictate their lives.

In other words, every one that Bush elects is a conservative extremist. There isn't a good mix of extreme liberals nor extreme conservatives. It's all extreme conservatives. And then you wonder why people hate Dictator Bush.
