| The European Union | | A couple of years ago, the European Union was formed, which is basically the result of an idea called "Europe must be one!" Without consulting the opinions of the country's citizens, the borders were opened, and our beloved national coin was replaced with the international € ("Euro" currency), which compared to the extremely strong Dutch Gulden, is a not-so-stable coin. Printed on shitty paper, I still haven't fully gotten used to it, and I probably never will.
Recap from when it was first introduced: € € €
Now, present day, we get the chance to actually vote. We get to express our opinions on the formation of the European Union, and what we think about the fact that our country joined the bandwagon.
What does everyone here think of the whole thing, outside Europe, inside Europe, has your country joined and why or why not? |

| Yes Ireland has joined and I like it. I supposed the biggest advantage is going to other countries that have the Euro and no need to change currency.
On the bad side, too many things were increased and rounded up. |

| Yeah, however, there's more to it than the new coin. Every single country has to listen to a set of rules and regulations on a continent basis. Everything gets leveled out. Countries that screwed themselves up in the last decade will receive money from other countries and become richer, while countries that worked hard to get where they are have to give everything away now, and all fall into decay.
But that isn't neccessarily what concerns me. What concerns me is how the idea of a United Europe isn't going to work in practice. They talk about countries uniting and standing up together against terrorism for one. But did that ever happen? No way. Countries like Germany and France aren't even keeping to the rules. They keep doing their own thing still, while those dumbasses in my country are about the only ones who follow the rules closely. But since Germany and France are the two biggest and most dominant countries in the EU, a little country such as mine will not stand a chance. We can't tell Germany and France to keep to the rules. Who the hell can? It appears no-one, cause they're still doing their own thing. And so the theory of a united Europe has failed to follow through, and we're in deep shit now, heh. |

| I know what you are saying, I know its not just the money but I think the likes of Ireland gains the most from being part of the European Union, I think its great how new countries are joining, its helping so many underdeveloped countries and giving them fantastic opportunities. |

| Do you think Turkey should be able to join? I know they've been wanting to. Really, I'm not sure. Both sides have good arguments. Although my knowledge of the situation has now become a bit hazy.

I dont think its fair on them, they really do need the European Union's help. |

I dont think its fair on them, they really do need the European Union's help. | Turkey is being pressured to admit the Armenian Genocide. It is when in 1915, Turks killed 1.5 Million Armenians. The Turkish government denies any of it happing, even though there are millions of articles and survivors of the mass killings, The EU is pressuring them to admit it. But the part is, that if Turkey does admit it, it has to give back all of the stolen land it took from Armenia in 1915, which is basicly like 1/3 of Turkey, (The eastern part) so if Turkey wants to enter, it has to admit that it killed 1.5 million people 90 years ago. Im glad the EU is pressuring them, because its almost impossible to deny something like that. Thats sort of like Germany denying it ever killed any Jews. |
