The man found guilty for his part in the Bali bombing punched the air, whooped with joy and gave a double thumbs up as he was sentenced to death.
Defiant Amrozi flashed a broad grin at crying relatives of the dead as he was led out of the court.
The 40-year-old is the first person to be convicted of involvement in last year's devastating attacks, which killed 202 people.
He had admitted to buying the explosives for the bomb and the van in which it was planted but had denied carrying out the attack.
Chief judge I Made Karna said Amrozi had been "legally and convincingly proven guilty of terrorism".
"We hereby ... hand down the death sentence on Amrozi," he added, describing the bombings as a "crime against humanity".
Hundreds of people inside and outside the court cheered as the death sentence was handed down.
Amrozi - the "smiling bomber" - denied the attack was the work of the southeast terror group Jemaah Islamiah - investigators claimed al Qaeda had funded the plot.
