No if they are payed under the table there is no record of them with the Gov't. So the Gov'y does not know they are here. In effect they dont pay any taxes.

If they paid everyone 11$ a hour, we would be paying 20% more b/c not even fine department stores pay their employees that much(its around 7-8). I work at a restaruant, and pretty much half the staff are not citizens...yes they have green cards so they can work, but i dont see how illegal immigrants are different except it causes a possible security situation.
The way i see it, is yes 5.15 a hour sucks, but compared to what they were geting paid from where they came form...its a step up. Not to mention some cooks that started off at 5 a hour moved up to around 20$ a hour. Without immigrants our prices would be out of controll, many many buisness would go out of buisness and not to mention the effect on other countries when we send them back...housing becomes available..etc. It would be a BAD thing. I live in Texas so maybe i see the effects more than others b/c we're on the border to mexico.
Its kinda like in 3rd world countires where nike goes and pays workers there 2 dollars a hour, yes thats shitty and shouldnt happen..but compared to 50 cents a hour its better and to accually HAVE a job is lucky...you cant look at it from our perspective, you have to look at it from theris and their situation in their country.
Ps. i would also like to add that legal citizens get paid the same as the green card workers.
The point is that illegals have zero rights essentially. I can choose to not pay them and there is little recourse for them. If they go to the police, then they are deported. There are no safeguards for them if trouble arises. That puts the employer in a position to take advantage of them. Certainly, if the gov't would make a worker's visa easier or promote it more or something then ppl might be more inclined to become legal. That way at least they would have rights and protection in the U.S..

Maybe cuz the population on Iceland is less of 500,000 and Big countries as United States or Mexico ppl move and can't find a job...
