| Well, I'll help ya out. 46 Slap Happy from The One with Joey's New Brain
(Feb. 15, 2001)
Joey, playing soap opera doc Drake Ramoray, informs star Cecelia Monroe (Susan Sarandon) that her character, Jessica Lockhart, is being written out of the show; a writer has told him that Jessica's brain is being transplanted into his character's body. First, she quizzes him: "Which writer? Was it bald or was it tall?" Then she does what any self-respecting diva would do: throw a drink in his face and slap him hard. Ultimately, Joey charms the aging daytime star, and they're kissing passionately. This May-December romance could really sizzle, it seems-- if only she weren't jetting off to Guadalajara the next day to become the Queen of Mexican Cinema. 45 Tag, You're It from The one with the Engagement Picture
(Nov. 2, 2000)
What was Rachel thinking? To keep her yummy Ralph Lauren assistant, Tag (Eddie Cahill), away from a flirtatious colleague--and to herself--she sends him out on the town with Joey. But the plan backfires as Tag learns from the master during a night of barhopping; he even nails Joey's trademark "How you doin'?" pickup line. Cahill was cute enough as it is, but this delivery seals the deal. 44 The Name Game from The One After Vegas
(Sep. 23, 1999)
While we awaited for the sixth-season opener to see what would happen in the wake of Ross and Rachel's drunken Vegas nuptials (read on), Courtney Cox spent her summer taking a groom ("Scream" costar David Arquette)--and his name. So what better way to spoof Monica's new real-life moniker than with a great sight gag: giving the entire cast, plus creators Marta Kauffman and David Crane, the surname Arquette in the opening credits. These Friends really are family. 43 Making a Move from The One with the Videotape
(October 18, 2001)
When Ross and Rachel conceived their baby, Ross accidentally videotaped it. Now everyone gathers around the TV to settle an argument: Who came onto who? (Or, as Joey corrects, "Whom?") On the tape, Rachel is seen asking, "Ross, did I ever tell you about the time I went backpacking through Western Europe?" This proves, much to her embarassment, that she made the first move. How does everyone know? She's using the first line of a tried-and-true seduction story, spread by word of mouth--and traced back to Joey. 42 The Long Goodbye from The One on the Last Night
(Nov. 4, 1999)
Now that he and Monica are a committed couple, Chandler wants to move in, but Rachel's not budging. As orderly Monica doles out packing duties, Phoebe asks the sad roomies what they won't miss about living together. Soon, the two are at it. Monica apes Rachel: "I love Ross. I hate Ross. I love Ross. I hate Ross." What about Monica's habit of borrowing boots? "You stretch them out with your big old clown feet," Rachel gripes. But they soon realize how much they're going to miss each other. A teary Monica finally admits, "You have to leave and now I have to live with a boy!" 41 Baby Talk from The One With the Birth
(May 11, 1995)
The birth of Ben, Ross's son with his ex-wife, Carol--now a lesbian--delivers a bouncy shot from the tot's crib's eye view. "He doesn't do much," joshes Chandler as everyone coos and cracks wise over the newest friend. "Nope, this is pretty much it," the proud papa beams. And it's pretty much all we need. Want more? How about Chandler and Monica's pact to have a baby together if they're still single at 40? Seven years later and married, they look like they're on their way. 40 Chair Potatoes from The One where Ross and Rachel...You Know
(Feb. 8, 1996)
Ross and Rachel finally get together, in a museum diorama, no less. But before that, Joey and Chandler become real La-Z-Boys in their new leather recliners. It's a days-long orgy of bad TV and salty snacks. At one point, Ross wanders in. "Aren't you supposed to be out with Rachel?" Joey asks. Ross snorts, "That was 14 hours ago!" Hog heaven never looked so plush. 39 The Big Slip from The One with Ross's Wedding, Part II
(May 7, 1998)
Chaos rains on Ross and Emily's (Hellen Baxendale) wedding in London. Their parents wrangle, the wedding hall is being demolished, and out of the blue, Chandler and Monica get physical. Rachel flies over to tell Ross she loves him but has a change of heart when she sees him kissing Emily. Then, during his vows, Ross says, "I, Ross, take thee, Rachel..." This shocking season ender proves that our favorite comedy even does cliff-hangers well. |
