| worst award show.Ever. Lets see- (I'ma put this stuff in spoilers just in case) | Spoiler! | Britney won nothing. Nothing. Alan and I had a little VMA party , and we were so fucking shocked. We were like Shes GOT Best pop and Female. Its in the bag. Best pop went to No Doubt. I never EVER saw that coming. I don't even really like that song or video. Britney got shafted on that one. I was like FINE, then shes GOT Best Female at LEAST! No, Beyonce won. I don't like that song, I hated the video. It was soo boring, and I thought Toxic beat allll of those. So I knew she wasn't going to get Best Dance or Video of the Year, obviously.
Britney wasn't even there, obviously she knew she wasn't going to win, thank goodness she didn't go just to get shafted for videos that were NOT nearly as good as 'Toxic' IMO. She was so ripped. Go MTV!
Ok, I was like "At LEAST I have Dave Chapelle to look foward too." NO. He did not get like 3 minutes to introduce Lil Jon and Terror Squad and like 2 seconds to introduce Jay Z. Why did they put him in all those ads only to give him NO time?? WHY??
I didn't like Jessica's performance (at least she looked good). Missed Kanye's. They totally screwed over Yellowcard/Jet/Hoobastank (DOUG sounded horrible!!) to put in about 2093840 rap performances. And WHO booked the polystupid whatever spree??? Thats just embarrassing! Who listens to that???
Best part was the 2 seconds I saw bam when he went up with Tony Hawk for Best Video Game music to accept ( yeah I don't know why he accepted either, maybe hes in the game?). I also liked that Outkast won video of the year (I knew Britney wouldn't win), I was so scared Jay Z would get it. I like that Maroon 5 won best new artist. Where were they? Did they actually walk out or not show in protest of Britney??? Cause that would ROCK! GO Maroon 5! Oh and I was ecstatic that Linkin Park won viewers choice, I was terrified that GC would get it. OVerall-very dissapointing.Very. |

| Wow, Jess, I completely agree with you, COMPLETELY! | Spoiler! | I REALLY REALLY liked Christinas and Nellys performance, that was my favorite performance of the night! JoJo was cute. But, there was nothing special about this years show, nothing at all. |
If you wanna know how I feel, just read Jess's post, it's basically the same.

| Jess, Tony accepted because he's the famous one. None of the music directors are famous. No one wants to see them on stage. :P
I LOVED Ashlee and Tony. "I think its missing something.."
Everytime they were like, "..a special whatever.." I'd be like, "Britney." I didnt believe she was there, I'd just say it. Derek was howling. When Tony Hawk said it was missing something, I'm like, "Yeah. Britney Spears." OH and when they said, "Special guest with Alicia Keys.." Im like, "DEREK! ITS BRITNEY."
Is it okay to laugh at your own jokes? Jimmy Fallon does it..
OMFG That was hillarious. "Captain Fart". I almost peed myself. Latifah was like, "He called you Captain Fart.." rofl |

| Jess, I completely agree with you! | Spoiler! | It sucks that Britney was yet again screwed. She HAD to have had won Best Pop. From what I heard/seen, everyone liked "Toxic", it was a big hit on the radio and people who didnt even like Birtney, liked that song. I was pissed but MTv always ends up pissing me off anyway.
The best performance was Nelly and Christina, the others even the grouped rock performance sucked. What the hell was that? And where the hell was KoRn in Best Rock??! Basterds. I didnt see but was Evanesence nominated for any thing?
And I agree, Doug sang terrible. It was almost like he didnt want to be there or sing at all. Jessica was OK, it wasnt the best, I didnt like her hanging above the crowd. I was in fear for her life, I thought she would tilt her head back too far and fall head first into the semi bored crowd. And did she lip sing that last line from "With You"? It looked like it. She did do a god job singing the cover, I liked that, she did look awesome too. And lets not forget the poly-whatever cult, simply embarrassing! The way that guy jumped around like a fairy and then ended up 5 feet in the air just dangling with the biggest drooky look on his face. Ugh. The Rap performances sucked, Lil Jon was alright, I hate that lean back song so much! I changed the channel and missed Kayne West. Ill give to Alicia Keys, she did give a good performance but the "suprise" guest, wasnt so suprising. Anyone else annoyed with the whole Usher vs Justin thing? Who really cares and Usher winning Best Male and then burning Justin in his speech wasnt helping me like him anymore than I did.
I thought Dave was going to do a performance or something like that. Oh well, I LOVED that Bam went on stage! I freaked out, my friend actually called me just to make sure I saw him. I was like "Bitch, I know!". That whole Jimmy Fallon joke thing wasnt funny. I abit annoyed at how they tired to make it funny.
I hated how MTV whored the whole election thing and it was hilarious when the Bush girls were booed! I was on the floor! I knew Linkin Park would get Viewers Choice, there wasnt a doubt in my mind. Mainly because its an anime video and that whole anime cartoon shit is a big trend now. Where were the rest of the band? Only 2 of them were there.
Was it me or did it feel cramped in that arena? Ive been there before for concerts and it doesnt look nearly as small as it did on tv. And what was up with the blue and white toilet brush set thing? That was horrible. Geez, I could go on but fuck Im tired of typing. Indeed a very dissapointing show. Alot of hype for nothing. I cant believe I saw this shit and missed Six Feet Under. Fuck you MTV. |

Christina/Nelly, The performance didn't move me, butit was one of the best of the night (sadly). If they were trying to be risque they failed horribly, and recycling old songs just isn't working for Nelly anymore. I mean it wasn't Tony Hawk and Bam Margera's Underground! Matt told me today he had a character in the game, which I actually want to play just for the purpose of playing with Bam now.(that sounds dirty) So I assume that thats why, but I didn't know last night. Not that I cared! Highlight of the whole VMAs!! Quote: Originally posted by Zombie | Spoiler! | | And where the hell was KoRn in Best Rock??! Basterds. Doug..I think the song was just way too high for him to sing very well. I heard he wasn't good live ANYWAYS, so I'm thankful now i didn't see THEM in concert. MTV sucks for breaking up all the rock performances and giving everyone else forever.
I actually told my friend that I was scared Jess would fall into the crowd. And what is up with those Jim Carrey faces she makes while singing??? She can open her mouth up wider than just about anyone I know! I like Jess a lot, but I don't think that was her best performance.
YES YES on that Polyphonic- whatever. I was like 'this is so embarrassing to white people. All the rap /r&b lovers got performances by the biggest names out there! Whilist the rock /pop fans got that crap. What was MTV thinking?"
Unless the spread of the cult goes further than I think, and most Americans love it.
LMAO And YES I loved that Bam went upstage I was just like "Is he part of the game or something?" I saw him on TRL the day before and he said his date would be Compton Ass Terry, but I didn't actually see him with him on the red carpet, but oh well. Sad that those brief moments made the VMAs for me. I think I annoyed everyone in the h ouse by screaming at the TV whenever Bam came on. Oh well.
Dave Chapelle should sue for defamation of character/false advertisment. After seeing his non funny bits on MTV I 'm sure he has a few less fans. MTV whored his ads out for a month or so, just so everyone would get interested. I hate how they do that crap. |

[/spoiler] | Trust me Jess, pretty much everyone in the world agrees with you. Anyways, I didn't think the Christina/Nelly performance was meant to be risque, it was more about the visual and the dancers and all that. That's why I lovoed it, it wasn't all about sex and it was VERY tastefully done. |

Ratings for the tamer - than - usual MTV Video Music Awards fell for the third consecutive year despite airing for the first time on a Sunday, when viewership is highest.
According to Nielsen Media Research, the live broadcast drew 10.3 million viewers, compared to 10.71 million viewers in 2003, when Madonna smooched Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. The record of 11.95 million was set in 2002.
Sunday's event took place in Miami, the first time in the event's 21-year history that it was not held in New York or Los Angeles. The telecast had to compete with NBC's Summer Olympics closing-night ceremony.
Traditionally, the VMAs are one of the most-watched cable TV events of the year. |
