| WWE SummerSlam - The Official Thread | | Hey guys! Are you ready? Ready for the BIGGEST party of the Summer?! That's right, this Sunday, August 20th, 2006 LIVE on PPV from the TD Banknorth Garden in Boston, MA. is WWE SummerSlam! Man oh man, it's shaping up to be one of the best PPVs of this year. Below is all the information you need on the matches & the show, enjoy! WWE Champion Edge vs. John Cena
August 20th, 2006
The lengthy rivalry between WWE Champion Edge and former Champion John Cena will come to a head when the two meet for the WWE Championship at SummerSlam. In addition to a healthy hatred between the two, the rivalry has consistently centered over the coveted WWE Championship.
Their first encounter for the gold was at New Year’s Revolution. On that night, John Cena successfully defended his Championship in a brutal Elimination Chamber Match against five other men, only to be greeted by Edge, who wisely chose to cash in his Money in the Bank contract for the right to face an exhausted and wounded Cena for the Championship. The ensuing match was brief, with Edge putting the finishing touches on an already worn down Cena, spearing the bloodied and battered Chain Gang leader and recording the pin to secure his first WWE Championship.
Edge’s first championship reign, however, was cut short when Cena recaptured the gold at the Royal Rumble. Edge was unable to regain the championship in subsequent rematches and found himself out of the hunt until after Backlash, when he once again found himself squaring off with Cena for the Championship. The match was a Triple Threat Match, including both Cena and Edge, and a third challenger, Triple H. While there was a third participant, the result was the same, as Cena again successfully defended his gold.
After Backlash, Cena’s focus turned towards ECW’s One Night Stand, where he was defending his Championship against Rob Van Dam. While the saga between Cena and Edge appeared to have been put to the rest, at One Night Stand, Edge proved that the rivalry was anything but over. The Rated-R Superstar interfered in the match, spearing Cena and opening the door for Van Dam to hit the Five-Star Frogsplash and win the Championship.
Several weeks later, Edge, Cena and Van Dam met in a Triple Threat for the Championship on RAW. On that night, Edge became a two-time WWE Champion when he pinned Rob Van Dam to claim victory.
Since then, the rivalry between Cena and Edge has only grown. The competitors met for the Championship at Saturday Night’s Main Event and Cena appeared poised to secure the victory, but Lita had other plans, assaulting the referee and forcing a disqualification, allowing the gold to remain around Edge’s waist.
At SummerSlam however, if Lita tries to get involved, she and Edge will pay the price. Unlike normal WWE rules, at SummerSlam, the Championship can change hands on a disqualification.
Will Cena be able to regain the Championship, or will Edge continue to make this an R Rated Summer? Don't miss SummerSlam, Aug. 20th at 8/7 CT on pay-per-view to find out.

August 20th, 2006
As first reported last Tuesday afternoon as breaking news on WWE.com, Theodore R. Long has announced that King Booker will defend his World Heavyweight Championship against Batista at SummerSlam.
For King Booker, who captured the World Heavyweight Championship just a month ago at The Great American Bash, Batista will be the next in the line of top notch opponents for his majesty. Since winning the gold, King Booker has faced Rey Mysterio in a return match and Undertaker on SmackDown, giving the reigning royalty very little time to rest on his throne.
The Animal, who was sidelined for nearly seven months with a triceps injury, has been unleashed since returning to SmackDown. Temporary setbacks against Mr. Kennedy have done nothing to slow Batista, and recently on SmackDown, he got his revenge on the cocky Superstar. After the match, Batista rejected congratulations from Michael Cole, instead opting to send a message to King Booker. “You can congratulate me when I get my World Heavyweight Championship back.”
At SummerSlam, the former Champion will get his chance to reclaim the crown from current holder, King Booker. What will happen when Champion and Animal collide? Find out for yourself on August 20th at SummerSlam, live and only on pay-per-view.
How have the King and the Animal fared at past SummerSlam events? Find out now in the Tale Of The Tape. Hulk Hogan vs. Randy Orton
August 20th, 2006
The scheduled match between Hulk Hogan and Randy Orton is no longer in question. Hulk Hogan was originally scheduled to show up at RAW Aug. 7 in Memphis, but he was unable to make it due to a partially torn meniscus. Hogan's status for the match was up in the air for some time but Hogan confirmed to WWE.com earlier this week that he is officially in. (More Details)
Randy Orton has earned his reputation as the “Legend Killer” by taking out some of the biggest Superstars in sports-entertainment history. At SummerSlam, if the match goes on as scheduled, Orton will try to conquer arguably the biggest legend of them all: WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan.
At Saturday Night’s Main Event on July 15th, Orton interrupted a special appearance by Hogan and his daughter Brooke. However, he was very respectful, and even brought Brooke a rose. He then “respectfully challenged” Hogan to a match at SummerSlam, which the Hulkster respectfully accepted. The two then shook hands, and all seemed well.
Until later that night, that is. As Orton and Brooke conversed, the Hulkster interrupted and brushed the Legend Killer aside. But after Hogan helped his daughter into their car, Orton snuck up from behind and gave him an RKO, sending the Hall of Famer face-first into the trunk of the car. As Brooke ran out to tend to her father, Orton walked away with a sly grin on his face.
SummerSlam has been the site of some of Orton’s biggest conquests; he won the World Heavyweight Championship from Chris Benoit in 2004, and last year father Cowboy Bob Orton helped him conquer Undertaker. Will SummerSlam 2006 see the Legend Killer’s biggest conquest yet, or will Hulk Hogan stand up to the disrespectul youngster?

August 20th, 2006
As first reported on WWE.com, SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long has set a match at SummerSlam between two former lifelong friends – Rey Mysterio and Chavo Guerrero. The deep-rooted animosity between these men has grown to the point where Guerrero has agreed to come out of retirement to face Mysterio.
For Rey Mysterio, it has been an emotional month of betrayal and defeat at the hands of Chavo Guerrero. After months of supporting Mysterio, at The Great American Bash, Chavo did the unthinkable and cost Rey the World Championship. With the swing of a single chair from Chavo, King Booker was able to defeat the biggest underdog champion in WWE history and claim Mysterio’s livelihood.
Days later on SmackDown, Rey sought to reclaim the championship in a return match against King Booker. Yet again, Chavo involved himself and kept Rey from reliving his dream – a dream that he fulfilled at WrestleMania 22 in the name of Chavo’s uncle, the late Eddie Guerrero.
Chavo officially retired from sports-entertainment this past April after several disappointing losses in matches he’d dedicated to his uncle. Even in retirement, Chavo rallied behind his SummerSlam opponent in Rey’s quest to become World Champion. Following his heinous actions at The Bash and on SmackDown, Chavo went on the record several weeks ago to address his shattered friendship.
Calling Mysterio a “leech living off the blood of the Guerrero name,” Chavo said that Mysterio was trying to “steal the spotlight” by tying himself to Eddie Guerrero.
“[Rey] used the Guerrero name… I’m the Guerrero, Rey – not you,” exclaimed Chavo. “You didn’t just steal Eddie from me, you didn’t just steal him from the Guerrero family; you stole the memory of Eddie from each and every one of those people out there.”
In response, Mysterio confronted Chavo, and the two friends turned bitter enemies fought until Vickie Guerrero came to separate them. Frustrated and torn, Vickie kept Rey and Chavo apart, in hopes of preserving the family-like bond between the Guerreros and Mysterio.
On the Aug. 8 edition of SmackDown, Vickie spent time with both Rey and Chavo in the locker room area, pleading with them to bring their conflict to an end. Chavo was vehement in telling Vickie that Rey Mysterio is not part of the Guerrero family and that Rey stole the name and legacy of her late husband, Eddie. Conversely, Rey told Vickie that he would try his best to avoid fighting Chavo, but he could not guarantee that he wouldn’t.
Later that night, Chavo came out to the ring during Rey Mysterio’s match with Mr. Kennedy. Before Chavo could do much of anything, Mysterio immediately abandoned his match to meet head-on with his enemy. As the two brawled in the aisle, Vickie again came out to be the peacemaker. In the middle of the fiery skirmish, things escalated as Vickie was knocked hard to the ground.
This war between Rey and Chavo has gotten larger and more vicious with each passing week. Refusing to choose a side, Vickie Guerrero has been unable to keep both men apart and has put her own physical and emotional health at risk. With everything Rey Mysterio and the Guerrero family has been through in the past year, this contest is sure to be one of the most dramatic matches in SummerSlam history.
What will happen when these men go one-on-one on Aug. 20th in Boston? Find out live and only on pay-per-view. D-Generation X vs. The McMahons
August 20th, 2006
After reuniting in June, D-Generation X has enjoyed embarrassing Mr. McMahon at Vengeance, Saturday Night’s Main Event and numerous times on RAW. Shawn Michaels and Triple H have belittled WWE’s Chairman in a variety of ways, including some of the most foul and heinous (not to mention, hilarious) pranks imaginable.
But lately the tides have turned, and DX is no longer smiling. First, Umaga took advantage of Triple H’s absence at RAW and dismantled HBK with a sneak attack. Then, after seeing how well it worked the first time they were separated, Mr. McMahon implemented a plan to divide and conquer his adversaries — and it worked again.
Planting contraband in Triple H’s possession, he alerted the police about The Game’s crime. Facing imprisonment or the chance to voluntarily go in for questioning, Triple H took the latter. His choice may have been the best for him personally, but for his partner — personally and professionally — it was terrible.
For the second time in two weeks, Shawn Michaels suffered a vicious beating at the hands of Umaga — this time with help from Michaels’ SummerSlam opponents, Mr. McMahon and his son Shane. After Mr. McMahon whipped HBK with a belt, the Chairman placed a steel chair in front of the Showstopper's face and Shane delivered a crushing dose of Sweet "Shane" Music to knock him out. How much more can Michaels endure before he’s unable to compete at SummerSlam on Aug. 20th against the McMahons?
This past week on RAW, Triple H suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of Umaga. The McMahons had their fingerprints all over it, having had Shawn Michaels arrested and removed the building, creating the 3-on-1 scenario for Umaga to thrive.
The road to SummerSlam is revving up, and in just more than a week— no matter what condition the two are in or what roadblocks the Chairman uses — DX will step into the ring against the McMahons. The question remains: when the dust from RAW settles and SummerSlam approaches, which team will be healthy enough to emerge victorious?

August 20th, 2006
For weeks, Mick Foley has declined Ric Flair’s request for a rematch…but that was before Flair thumbed through Foley’s second book, Foley is Good. On RAW, after citing a passage from the book that stated Foley’s favorite match of all-time was from 1989 when the “Nature Boy” took on Terry Funk in an “I Quit” Match, Foley changed his mind and accepted the invitation for a match at SummerSlam. But it’s not just any match—it’s one of the most ruthless matches a Superstar can compete in: an “I Quit” Match.
When the two squared off at Vengeance, the Hardcore Legend lost to Flair in a 2-out-of-3 Falls Match, drawing the disqualification after reverting to his hardcore roots by grabbing a trash can and mauling him with a barbed-wire baseball bat.
Since that match, Flair has been obsessed with getting back into the ring with Foley. He’s made numerous demands, pleas and has taken drastic steps like getting into the ring with Big Show on ECW to prove he’s hardcore enough to take on Foley. He made it clear that he had no plans to stop until he got what he wanted.
Following their match at Vengeance, Foley told WWE.com that he accomplished his goal to “embarrass Flair.” He did lose the match, but the fact that Flair was left a bloody mess had Foley proclaiming “it was mission accomplished.” At that point, he was ready to write the “Nature Boy” out of his life for good, telling WWE fans on numerous occasions that he wasn’t going to have a match with Flair ever again. “I hold all the cards…and I’m not wasting a match on a piece of crap like you,” he told Flair on RAW.
After a confrontation on RAW a few weeks ago -- when the “Nature Boy” attacked Foley for making off-color remarks about his family -- the Hardcore Legend said the reason he wasn’t taking the match was personal.
“I made a vow back in 1994 that I would never do a thing to help you out,” said Foley.
While the holdout lasted for nearly two months, Flair’s method of constant demands has apparently worked…and now the two will go at it again until one of them screams “I Quit.”
These matches are typically brutal slugfests, and with a career full of hate between the two on the line, this “I Quit” Match will be no different. Their mutual distaste for each other has been brewing since their time together in WCW in the early 1990’s.
“Twelve years ago you had the chance to make me, to make my dreams come true, and you stepped on those dreams,” chided Foley.
Flair retorted with, “May one of us bleed to death in Boston,” demonstrating the mentality they’ll be in when the meet in the ring on Aug. 20th. The “Nature Boy” has his hands full with this match, but in the frame of mind he’s put himself in over the past two months, he’s never been more prepared. Although Foley never wanted this match, he’s now locked into it, and he never shows up to a match — especially an “I Quit” Match — without exerting everything he has to leave the ring victorious.
While both Superstars insist it won’t be them, someone has to quit for the match to end. Which one will say it? Who will be the one to scream “I Quit?” Watch SummerSlam at 8/7 CT live on pay-per-view to see who crawls out in one piece.

| I agree with MBG above. Its great because Edge is hiding away from it. Remember the longer Edge hides the longer it will take management to remember to give the Spinny Belt back to Cena!
Anyway time for Duffyboy to do what he does best and disect the card. WWE Title: John Cena VS Edge
This could go either way. Either a Montreal style home town screw job (YAWN) Or Cena regains the spinny wigger belt in front of the Boston faithful. World Title: Batista VS Booker T
One heel has to leave with the title and I say it's Booker. There is no conceivable reason to take it off him seing as Batista isnt fully fit and Booker is a great champ on the mic and in the ring. ECW Title: Big Show VS ?
Angle RVD and Sabu will compete in a ladder match that will probably outshine this contest at SS but I'm pretty sure Big Show is entering his last week as champ. Chavo Guererro VS Rey Mysterio
The stipulation is that both men will fight on Eddie's grave. First person to shit on it wins. That person should be Rey but he's done that enough. So Chavo seing as he's a fresh heel and it would KILL him to lose. Hulk Hogan VS Randall Orton
Oh christ. An injured Hogan vs Chinlock Boy! Anything more than five minutes will resemble absolute HELL! DX VS McMahons
With UUUUUUUUUUUUMAGA in their corner I can see Vince and Shane going to win. Ric Flair VS Mick Foley
Foley here's a plea. Batter this old slandering fibber into retirement in the only way you know how. Make him bleed, make him suffer, make the cunt QUIT! |

| Ok hmmm here are mine!
John vs. Edge: Sorry BUT I see John winning esp in his hometown with maybe Lita costing Edge the title by either turning on him or screwing up.
Dave vs. Booker: Hmmm this one could go either way as much as I want Batista with HIS title back, I see Booker keeping it.
Big Show vs. Sabu: I see Sabu winning only to have Heyman screw him over like he did to RVD.
Chavo vs. Rey: Sorry Rey! but I gotta go with Chavo with help from Vickie turning heel.
Hogan vs. Orton: Hogan ENOUGH SAID!!!
DX {My boys! } vs. McMahons: Ok even with Umaga probably at ringside, I still see DX winning in a big way maybe they could get someone to help them.
Foley vs. Flair: gotta go with Flair and maybe Foley jumping to ECW. |

| Summerslam Report Chavo Guererro VS Rey Mysterio
Remember when I said after Chavo's promo that it was the sort of thing that would turn Chavo into a truth spreading face? Well guess what WWE! You accidentally created a new babyface! Rey got pelters from the Boston crowd, including MEGA heat when he used the 3 Amigos! It was a good match between the two until Vicki *spit* came out to cost Rey the match and cost the taxpayer!
You know with Eddie so over as a babyface right now they should put him in the main event at WM23. Come on, If Cena and Batista and JBL can work WM Main events I see no reason why a dead Guererro cant! Big Show VS Sabu
Fun match although criminally short and a little like an Albino Leapord with a lot of missed spots. :P Sabu should have won IMHO but with Van Dam and Angle in the mix this can only get better! Hogan VS Orton
Orton jobs in a match packed with duelling chants and the same old shit from Hogan. I hope that this feud is over and Hogan goes away!
On a side note they were going to pull a stunt where Orton date rapes Brook but it was thank God dropped. Fuck you Steph x1! Ric Flair VS Foley
Foley was brilliant as usual trying to make Ric Flair credible and should have won the match. Terrible finish. It would have been better to sacrifice Milena than have Flair win! Fucking cunt! DX VS McMahons
Could have been done on RAW but was a pretty fun display with lots of fluff, interference and a SWEEET CHIN MUSIC on Shane from the terminator. Definatley the spot of the night!
By the way Stephanie was planning to hold a story after the match that Vince was Stephs father as an incest rape angle. That again was thank God dropped! Fuck you Steph x2! :qtounge: Batista VS Booker T
Absolute abortion. I hate Sharmel, I hate the booking of this match and I hate everyone!
And I also hate Smackdown events always ending in DQ's! Cena VS Edge
So much for hometown hero! Cena was booed out of the motherfucking building! Just to make it clear to Cena, just because we're from Boston doesnt make us think you are any less a poser you overmarketed wigger!
And EDGE FUCKING WON! I can not wait to see what happens in Toronto at Unforgiven!

| What a waste this PPV was, the 2 matches worth watching weren't even title matches. SS was a MAJOR disappointment in my book. Due to the events that've taken place here, no results will be posted. I hope next time around, both Batista and Cena kick whoever's asses they're facing in their matches. What happened @ SS was total BS IMHO. |

| Im shocked that I only missed 2 of my predictions LOL. I didnt understand though why Kennedy, Finlay and Regal came out to help the McMahons? when their on Smackdown!?? That was weird to me. Oh well! DX still won thats all that mattered to me. Ive been reading different opinons on the PPV and they have been mixed reactions. Sorry Duffy, but I want Edge to lose the damn belt he dont deserve it. |

| Duffy, I pray you're not gullible enough to believe that Steph was going to do an incest rape angle with Vince. Yes, I know. Counterpoint arguments are Katie Vick and Al Wilson. But those were 3 years ago and nothing even remotely that stupid has happened since.
(I know. Dr. Heiney.) But incest is WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY too far over the line, even for the McMahons.
As for Summerslam, I have to agree that it was disappointing that not one heavyweight title changed hands. I'd be a little disappointed if I had paid to go to that show or paid to order it on PPV. Luckily I watched at my friend's house.
Lowlights of the night:
Hulk Hogan in every way
No title changes
No U.S. title match
Highlights of the night:
THE I QUIT MATCH. Brutal. Intense. Classic. Show stealer.
DX begins to break Vince McMahon
Kane sets up an interesting feud with Umaga
Despite no title change, the ECW match was entertaining. |
