When the commercial started, at first I thought it was a Britney song, heh. With the diva's washing the car and all.

Anyways...

Kevin Nash looking forward to 'Shakespeare' at SummerSlam
By Ed Williams III
July 27, 2005

Shawn Michaels and Hulk Hogan are two of the most famous names in WWE history. Up until now, their paths have never really crossed. Hulkamania was born in 1984 and was running wild in WWE through the early 1990s. Once Hogan left for WCW, HBK began his rise to dominance in the singles ranks, accumulating one of the most impressive resumes in WWE history.

Former WWE Champion Kevin Nash (aka Diesel) has been linked to both The Icon and The Legend throughout his career. As a result, there’s probably no other wrestler alive today that can compare the two Superstars better than Nash. WWE.com was able to catch up with Nash recently to talk about the upcoming battle.

WWE.com: You have been closely linked to both Shawn Michaels and Hulk Hogan during your career. How would you compare the two experiences?
Kevin Nash: Working with both were real highlights of my career. Coming in with Shawn was basically the origin of my WWE career. And Hulk was actually there when I came in for a short time, and then of course the nWo was a huge highlight of my career. Hulk played a big part of that. Both of those guys were very instrumental in the success of my career. It was kind of like your first kiss with Shawn. And then Hulk was later on in my career after I had success, so it was a completely different experience entirely. Shawn and I traveled every day for three years night in and night out, 365 days a year. I learned the business from Shawn and Scott (Hall). I took what I learned from them and was able to help create what we did in Atlanta (WCW).

WWE.com: Did Shawn ever talk to you about Hogan holding him back in the late 1980s – early 1990s?
Nash: No, not really. When we got in there it was pretty much a big man territory. I think that’s one of the reasons Shawn brought me in. He brought in the biggest heel he could to get heat on, so at least they’d (the bigger wrestlers) work with me.
WWE.com: This week on RAW, Shawn said that the old HBK was back. Do you believe that Shawn is capable of truly bringing the old HBK back?
Nash: To me, he’s always been able to shift gears. He’s always been able to buzzsaw somebody. I just don’t think he’s going to compromise his beliefs that he presently has for the betterment of a SummerSlam match. I think this match is much like The Rock vs. Hogan at WrestleMania (X8). You won’t hate either of them more than the other. I know that I’ll watch it because it’s a match I haven’t seen. They’re saying it’s the Icon vs. the Legend, and that’s what it is. It’s something we haven’t seen before. The psychology of who’s heel and who’s babyface doesn’t’ really matter. It’s just two great performers – one has had 25, 30 years and one has had 21, 22 great years, and it’s a match that’s never happened. It’s the old Pro Wrestling Illustrated Dream Match – the computer match – but we actually get to see it.

WWE.com: You touched on it already, but can you elaborate on whether or not you think Shawn’s beliefs would hinder the old HBK from coming back?
Nash: I just don’t think, in talking to him the last couple of weeks, that he feels he needs that. I think that the really successful people in our business have been able to pull something out that’s a real personality trait. And that’s not a real personality trait he has anymore. He won’t be raunchy, but I’m sure he can create violence. I watch the shows occasionally, still, and there’s not a whole lot of guys that create violence. And plus Shawn’s great anyways. Shawn’s not going to not have a great performance.

WWE.com: What do you think we can expect from this match?
Nash: I just pray the young guys sit around the monitors and keep their mouths shut and watch how it’s done. If they want to see how to work and not do high spots and Chinese Firedrill and just want to see how it’s done – sit down and watch Shakespeare.

WWE.com: Is there anything in particular that you are looking most forward to in this match?
Nash: I’m looking forward to the finish. With the two huge egos going into this, I want to see how things pan out. That to me will be incredibly interesting.

The latest match to be added to the SummerSlam card will definitely be one for the ages, Matt Hardy vs. Edge. I can't wait to see this year's PPV, it's always been one of my personal favorites, along w/ WrestleMania & Survivor Series. Below are the details of this highly-anticipated match -

Edge vs. Matt Hardy
August 21st, 2005

This one’s personal. That phrase may never have rang more true than it does in the upcoming one on one contest between Edge and Matt Hardy.

Mr. McMahon made the shocking announcement on the Aug. 1 edition of RAW that he had made the “smart business” decision to bring back Matt Hardy, months after he had been released from WWE. Hardy had spent the last few weeks popping up at WWE events and attacking Edge every chance he had. Mr. McMahon said that Hardy had been starting fires all over WWE, and he wanted to pour gasoline on those fires.

On his return to RAW, Hardy set the record straight and said that he had been involved in a 6-year relationship with Lita. While she was married to Kane on TV, Lita was coming home to him. Then, when he was out of action with a serious knee injury, she had an affair with one of his closest friends, Edge. After fans caught wind of what had been going on, they voiced their opinions.

Matt said that maybe he should thank Mr. McMahon for bringing him back, but he thanked the fans instead. It was the fans who chanted “We Want Matt” at Madison Square Garden back in April, and it was those chants that brought him back. He said that Edge had ruined his dreams of having a family and that he almost ruined his dreams of being a WWE Superstar. He said that at SummerSlam, it’s either kill or be killed and Matt Hardy will not die.

WATCH Hardy's emotional speech.

Every time these two Superstars have met recently, security and officials have had to separate them. One can only imagine what will happen when it’s only Matt Hardy vs. Edge with no one to separate them.

The latest match to be added to the SS card, Randy Orton vs. Undertaker -

August 21st, 2005

If Undertaker thought he had seen the last of Randy Orton after defeating the Legend Killer at WrestleMania 21, he couldn’t have been more wrong.

Orton was introduced as SmackDown!’s No. 2 pick in the WWE Draft Lottery back in June, and immediately infuriated Undertaker when he cost The Deadman a No Disqualification Match against JBL. Weeks later, Orton was at it again.

This time, Orton cost Undertaker a chance to main event SummerSlam when he interfered with Undertaker’s No. 1 Contender Match against JBL, swooping in and delivering a crushing RKO on Taker when the referee was distracted.

One week later, Orton admitted that Undertaker cost him immortality at WrestleMania 21. He also said he wouldn't sleep at night until he added Undertaker to the lengthy and impressive list of legends he has already defeated.

As you might expect, Undertaker has had enough and now promises Orton will rest in peace come SummerSlam on Aug. 21. Will The Legend Killer pay the price for his actions?

Eugene vs. Kurt is the latest match to be added to the card for SummerSlam -

Eugene vs. Kurt Angle
August 21st, 2005

Kurt Angle toured the country for months, putting his Olympic gold medal on the line against hometown heroes. Each and every week, Angle dismissed his lesser-known challengers with relative ease. Then in late July, Eugene returned to RAW and actually outlasted Angle in the Invitational. As a result, Eugene became the proud owner of Angle’s gold medal.

A few weeks later while in Pittsburgh, Angle had a shot to win back his medal in the Eugene Gold Medal Invitational. Unfortunately for Angle, however, Eugene was able to walk away with the gold in tact, despite some controversy.

At SummerSlam, according to Angle, there will be no controversy. There will be no three-minute time limit. It will be Kurt Angle vs. Eugene one on one in the center of the ring. Will Angle be able to exact a measure of revenge from the man who now owns his most prized possession? Watch SummerSlam to find out.

What is sure to be another slobberknocker of a match has just been added to the SS card, Rey Mysterio vs. Eddie Guerrero. Whoever wins the match gets final custody of Dominick.

The stakes don’t get much higher than this.

After weeks of harassing and tormenting Rey Mysterio with his disturbing bedtime story, it has come to this.

Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio will face each other at SummerSlam with the winner receiving sole custody of Dominick. Guerrero revealed to the world that Dominick is actually his biological son and then demanded Mysterio hand him over.

After eight years of Rey and his wife Angie raising Dominick as their own, Latino Heat was on the verge of tearing apart his family. That’s when Rey decided to appeal to Eddie’s sense of pride, noting that Guerrero had never defeated Mysterio. In fact, Rey has beaten Eddie six straight times.

As a result, Eddie agreed to this match with the ultimate stakes. In the meantime, Dominick is in foster care until these two Superstars and former friends and tag team partners settle their differences.

This is Eddie/Rey 5. They should at least put a stipulation in the match, as in street fight rules or No DQ or something. Either that or make this the absolute last chance Eddie has.

Well Nick, the second themesong is by Seether it seems, so that should make up for it.

Something what I don't get is, why do they milk these stories out so much? It gets to the point where it's not funny anymore. Though I'm not so worried about Eddie and Rey cause they can bring it in many different ways. But like, Taker/Heidenreich, Kane/Snitsky, Kane/Edge... that stuff gets so so boring...

I understand that when two very good athletes get it on in the ring, you get a showdown of excellence, such as Triple H/HBK, JBL/Cena, Eddie/Rey, and these guys are definitely worth giving rematches and sometimes more. WCW had this 7 match thing going on between Bret Hart and Booker T. Now that was something. And the 5 match Cena/Booker T on SmackDown a while ago was pretty good as well. But the way the WWE is going about things, they make any collision for these characters in the future pretty much impossible, cause the fans aren't going to want to see that anymore. So what you get is that they actually have to watch out to no longer put the Undertaker and Heidenreich in the same ring on opposite sides again.

And if there's gonna be a rematch between Michaels and Hogan after SummerSlam, I'm gonna cry.

I just don't understand how these script writers and match bookers survive. How can you still find ways to do stuff that hasn't been done before yet? Was it wise to start that trend to begin with? To constantly try to top past things? I sometimes break my brain over these things, and then feel kinda relieved that I'm not a writer for the WWE.

Yep, the other theme song is money. Seether was a very good choice. I just don't know why they had to bother with Fat Joe. I mean that song is fine at a beach or whatever if you're hanging out...or if there was going to be a diva match. It could be the official Diva Bikini Show song or something. Whatever. But I swear, watching the rundown of the SummerSlam card, knowing all the hatred and physicality involved with the matches that have been signed, and having to hear "let's get it poppin" in the background makes me want to kick someone in the balls (preferabbly the goof who seems to think the WWE demographic likes Fat Joe and Nelly).

As for never-ending storylines...it's just a sign of the times. I mean, back in the "golden years" of the 80s and the early 90s, a feud between two wrestlers could last at least a year and everyone would be into it. I guess we all have a much shorter attention span these days. Maybe it has to do with the fact that there is a TV show EVERY week, as opposed to the past when they didn't have an outlet to the TV audience all the time.

I think it's also the fact that they have a plan that they pretty much have to stick to unless there is an incredibly damn good reason to change it. If their path to the next big feud or whatever involves Undertaker vs. Heidenreich again and again, they need to keep it up unless something drastic happens to prevent it.

The point is to try to find those few guys who work so well with everyone that they only need to have two or three real feuds every year, making each one last a few months. Then you test the waters in front of the crowds and see which superstars work the best together. If you find two guys who work well enough together, they can execute and interesting storyline for half a year or more if they want to with as many matches as they want.

Examples: Shawn Michaels and Chris Jericho. Kane and Edge. Kurt Angle and Brock Lesnar. Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit. John Cena and Eric Bischoff will last a long time, I'm sure. Steve Austin and The Rock. The Undertaker and Kane. Shawn Michaels and Triple H. These are the guys who can put on a great match together EVERY single time.

It isn't necessarily the writers' fault. They're doing their best to put the right guys in the ring together. It's just that it's really hard to please the audience these days as it seems to be more demanding than it's ever been before. Which is kind of a shame.

Wow!

Ladies & Gentlemen, WWE SummerSlam 2005 is officially in the books and man, what a PPV it was! Below are the complete results this VERY exciting & eventful PPV (along w/ an added treat from the SD! & RAW Divas ), enjoy!

World Heavyweight Champion Batista def. JBL
August 21st, 2005

It turns out the No Holds Barred stipulation was right up Batista's alley.

In a brutal match, much of which took place outside the ring, Batista defeated and downright punished JBL to retain the World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam in his hometown of Washington, D.C.

The match turned when JBL brought the steel steps into the ring, prepared to inflict some damage.

Instead, Batista tossed JBL from the steps with a back body drop and then hit a Batista Bomb. But instead of pinning JBL, Batista picked him up off the mat and sent him back-first into the steps with another Batista Bomb before recording the pin on the steps.

WWE Champion John Cena def. Chris Jericho
August 21st, 2005

John Cena retained the WWE Championship with one of the most impressive victories of his career over Chris Jericho at SummerSlam.

Jericho was in total control late when he applied the Walls of Jericho, locking the move in for more than minute. But Cena was just able to get to the bottom rope, forcing Jericho to break the hold.

Jericho did more damage with a back suplex off the top rope, but Cena just kicked out, frustrating Jericho to the point of complaining to the referee about the count.

Moments later, Cena was able to land a massive FU and record the pin to keep his WWE Championship.

Rey Mysterio def. Eddie Guerrero
August 21st, 2005

Eddie Guerrero still hasn't defeated Rey Mysterio. But this victory was the most rewarding off all for Mysterio, who won an exhausting Ladder Match to win sole custody of Dominick at SummerSlam.

The match went back and forth, with both men trading painful blows and connecting with high-risk manuevers while utilizing the ladder.

On separate occassions, Both Eddie and Rey found themselves at the top of the ladder with the briefcase, holding the custody papers nearly in hand, only to fall violently to the ground.

At one point, Dominick even came to the ring to try and stop Eddie from climbing the ladder. Eddie responded by screaming a scared Dominick into the corner.

In the end, with Guerrero in control, Eddie's wife Vicki came to the ring and pushed her husband off the ladder. Earlier in the night, Vicki had told Eddie he was in this match for all of the wrong reasons.

With Eddie on the mat, Vicki shielded Rey from her husband as Rey marched up the ladder and snatched the briefcase.

Rey and Dominick shared an emotional hug after the match as Rey's wife Angie also came to the ring to celebrate.

Edge def. Matt Hardy
August 21st, 2005

Matt Hardy's quest for revenge against Edge, and Lita, never quite materialized.

Hardy lost his match to Edge when referee Chad Patton stopped the match when Hardy began to bleed steadily from his forehead. Hardy refused to quit on his own.

Overall, the match resembled a brawl more than it did a wrestling match, with both men clearly emotional.

Edge created the gash when he slammed Hardy's head against the steel ring post.

Kurt Angle def. Eugene
August 21st, 2005

Kurt Angle made his point.

The only Olympic Gold Medalist in WWE history, punished Eugene and took back his gold medal at SummerSlam.

Eugene put up a slight fight early, actually connecting with a Rock Bottom and a Stunner before Angle hit Eugene with an Angle Slam.

Angle then cinched in the Ankle Lock, which proved too much for Eugene, who tapped out.
After the match, Angle threw Eugene out of the ring and used a chair to erect a makeshift medal platform. He then had the referee place the medal around his neck while his music played.

Randy Orton def. Undertaker
August 21st, 2005

Randy Orton can finally add Undertaker to his list of beaten legends, but not without some timely help from his father Cowboy Bob Orton.

Undertaker looked to be in control late in the match after a big Chokeslam, but then what appeared to be an over zealous fan came to the ring, distracting Undertaker and the referee.

In the meantime, Orton came to his senses, and when Taker finally turned back to Orton, he hit Taker with an RKO and recorded the pin.

Moments later, Orton revealed the "fan" was actually his father in disguise. Father and son posed while Undertaker fumed back in the ring.

Chris Benoit def. Orlando Jordan (new United States Champion)
August 21st, 2005

Just as he promised, Chris Benoit made Orlando Jordan tap out to the Crippler Crossface, allowing Benoit to win the United States Championship for a third time.

The more shocking part was how long the match took.

Benoit needed less than a minute to apply the devestating move.

Hulk Hogan def. Shawn Michaels
August 21st, 2005

Advantage, Legend.

In one of the most anticipated matches in SummerSlam history, Hulk Hogan defeated Shawn Michaels.

Late in the match, a bloodied Hogan managed to escape a Sharpshooter and kick out of the combination of a flying elbow and Sweet Chin Music.

Hogan then delivered a big boot and leg drop to finish HBK off. After the match, the two men shook hands with HBK telling Hogan he needed this match to find out for himself.

What he found out was that Hulk Hogan still has it.

SUMMERSLAM>>

If you missed SummerSlam, you missed the bikini-clad Divas of RAW and SmackDown! wetting down a black limo as well as themselves, in addition to all the exciting action of SummerSlam.
