Gossip WWE Saturday Night's Main Event

Hey guys! Here's your preview of this coming weekend and Saturday Night's Main Event, which includes a WWE Championship Match, an Elimination Match, a Bikini Bull-Riding Contest, and much, much more!

D-Generation X vs. Spirit Squad (Elimination Match)
July 15th, 2006

Just a couple of weeks before Saturday Night's Main Event, Mr. McMahon has ordered D-Generation X to face all five members of the Spirit Squad in an Elimination Match.

Since reuniting, DX has wreaked havoc on WWE Chairman Mr. McMahon, his son Shane and the Spirit Squad on a weekly basis. Now, with the newest challenge placed upon the shoulders of Triple H and Shawn Michaels, DX will continue to try and fight the establishment, while Mr. McMahon looks to put an end to DX and restore corporate order to RAW.

Over the past few weeks, DX has doused a waterfall of green paint on the Spirit Squad, delivered a rooster to Mr. McMahon because they heard he loved “cocks”, dropped human excrement on the McMahons and the Spirit Squad and seized control of the WWE production truck during a live RAW broadcast. Needles to say, Mr. McMahon has had enough.

DX defeated the Spirit Squad at Vengeance in a Handicap Match, but will they be able to outlast all five members in an Elimination Match or can Mr. McMahon finally put an end to all of the DX shenanigans? You can find out by watching Saturday Night’s Main Event July 15th at 8/7 Central on NBC.

John Cena vs. WWE Champion Edge
July 15th, 2006

Live, on national television, John Cena will have an opportunity to win back the WWE Championship from his hated rival, Edge.

On the July 3rd edition of RAW, it looked as though Cena was already on his way to regaining the gold. But after Cena hit RVD with an FU, knocking him to the mat, Edge took the Championship belt and cracked Cena in the head. Then, Edge showed the being “Rated R” stands for being resourceful and stole the cover and the WWE Championship.

Cena’s history with Edge is extensive, and their match at Saturday Night’s Main Event is definitely personal. Edge won his first WWE Championship when he cashed in his Money in the Bank opportunity and defeated Cena after he was already bloodied and battered in the Elimination Chamber. But Cena ended that first Championship reign at the Royal Rumble in January, and this time, Edge has said he’s a wiser, stronger Champion that will not repeat the same mistakes during his second run as champion.

Will the Rated R Superstar be able to defend his newly acquired Championship, or will Cena’s determination to recapture RAW’s top honor lead him to victory? Tune in to Saturday Night’s Main Event at 8/7 CT on NBC to find out.

World Champion Rey Mysterio, Batista & U.S. Champion Bobby Lashley vs. King Booker, Mark Henry & Finlay
July 15th, 2006

Former World Champion Batista will be making his long-awaited return to in-ring action, live on Saturday Night’s Main Event July 15th.

After a six month absence, Batista returned to SmackDown on the July 7 edition of SmackDown, and he is surely eager to prove his time off only made him bigger, stronger and meaner than ever before.

Now that he’s back, the Animal’s hungry for a piece of the “The World’s Strongest Man” Mark Henry, the person responsible for putting Batista on the sidelines. The two will clash at The Great American Bash, but this will give them an opportunity to possibly get a brief taste of what the Bash will be like. The Animal will team with U.S. Champion Bobby Lashley and World Champion Rey Mysterio to take on Henry, King Booker and Finlay in a Six Man Tag Team Match. But with Sharmell and William Regal in the King’s corner, the three-on-three could wind up more like a five-on-three handicap match.

Mysterio and Batista share something in common—a problem with Mark Henry. Mysterio’s friend, Chavo Guerrero, suffered a brutal pounding by the hands of Henry, and when Mysterio tried to come to his friend’s aid, The World’s Strongest Man overpowered the much smaller World Champion, leaving him unconscious in the ring.

Without losing, Batista still has a legitimate claim for the Championship, so how will the man who vacated the Championship and the current World Champion coincide with one another? Can they work together to defeat their opponents?

Their other partner, Bobby Lashley, has been battling King Booker and Finlay for months. Finlay, William Regal and Sharmell flocked to ringside to support their King in his recent Steel Cage Match on SmackDown, doing their best to make sure Lashley didn’t get the victory. Unfortunately, their efforts weren’t enough. After a long, brutal battle between the King and the Champion, Lashley was able to climb out first for the victory. But Finlay and Regal will have a chance for revenge when they vie for Lashley’s U.S. Championship at The Great American Bash. They would probably like nothing more than to soften up Lashley before their chance at gold.

How will the King’s Court effect the match at Saturday Night’s Main Event? Will the King’s team reign supreme, or will the Animal and his team overthrow their rivals?

Special appearance by Hulk Hogan and daughter Brooke
July 15th, 2006

Arguably the most influential Superstar in Saturday Night's Main Event history will be returning to NBC on July 15th - Hulk Hogan.

The WWE Hall of Famer, who was also a part of the first-ever Saturday Night's Main Event, along with his daughter Brooke, will be making a special appearance at the huge event on live, national television. What does Hogan have in store for all of his Hulkamaniacs? Only time will tell, but one thing is for sure. Wherever Hulk Hogan goes, huge things usually follow.

What will happen when the immortal Hulk Hogan returns to Saturday Night's Main Event with his daughter Brooke? Tune in to Saturday Night's Main Event at 8/7 CT on NBC to find out.

Bikini Bull-Riding Contest
July 23rd, 2006

The sexiest women on television, the WWE Divas, will be out in full force at Saturday Night’s Main Event in the first-ever Bikini Bull-Riding Contest.

All three brands will be represented in this unique and intriguing contest. Women’s Champion Mickie James, Candice, Victoria, Torrie Wilson and Maria will represent RAW; Ashley, Jillian, Kristal and Michelle McCool will represent SmackDown; and Kelly Kelly will represent ECW. But they will all vie for bragging rights in the first ever Bikini Bull Riding Match.

Which Diva from which brand will emerge victorious? Will ECW’s Kelly abandon the Bull Riding Match to give the crowd another exposé? Will the former teacher, Michelle McCool, make the grade, or fail miserably? Tune in to Saturday Night’s Main Event at 8/7 CT on NBC to find out.

Time for some Saturday Night Main Event predictions.

Cena vs. Edge
Edge will retain by hook or by crook. There will be shenanigans. Cheap victory or underhanded DQ loss. Who knows?

Spirit Squad vs. DX
Vince pulls off a second SNME screwjob and finds Spirit Squad wins. Vince has to one-up DX at some point, and this is the time.

Batista, Rey, and Lashley vs. Henry, Booker, and Finlay
The face super team will win. On a limb, Rey will pin Booker.

Carlito/Trish vs. Nitro/Melina
Carlito and Trish win

Sabu vs. "what the hell difference does it make?"
Sabu will own the match and not get DQed like that ridiculous crap on Tuesday.

Bikini Bull Riding Contest
So many divas. Which one to pick. I'm gonna go with the Women's Champ, Mickie James. She has a chip on her shoulder as champ and she's going to dominate the contest.

Hogan and Brooke
Hogan will flex. Brooke will look hot. Hogan will promote Brooke. Randy will get horny and make a scene.

Summer Slammed

The crowd was electric with the return of the legendary Hulk Hogan to Saturday Night’s Main Event. Every appearance of the immortal Hulk is memorable, but this time may have topped them all.

In addition to his daughter, Brooke Hogan, making her WWE debut, a polite and respectful Randy Orton challenged Hulk to a match at SummerSlam. Hulk was won over by Orton’s good behavior and accepted. Later that night, however, Orton showed that old habits die-hard. The Legend Killer hit an unsuspecting Hulk with the RKO, leaving a distraught Brooke trying to help her incapacitated father.

Saturday Night’s Main Event started with the Dallas, Texas crowd going wild for legend, Hulk Hogan, and his beautiful, aspiring pop-star daughter, Brooke Hogan. The proud papa handed the microphone to his daughter, who had a few words to say about her WWE debut.

“I’ve always dreamed about this moment,” said Brooke. “The moment I could stand here next to my dad in this ring tonight in front of all of you.” She went on to say she hoped her career could be as successful as her father’s.

Doting father, Hulk, said he was very proud of Brooke and credited the fans with keeping Hulkamania running wild for so many years. Before Hulk could continue, Orton came out with a single red rose to join the Hogans in the ring.

Orton apologized for interrupting, but explained he couldn’t pass up the chance to stand next to the Hulk and his gorgeous daughter.

In an unusually chivalrous gesture, Orton gave the rose on behalf of all the Hulkamaniacs, which he admitted to being, to Brooke who looked smitten.

A humble Orton went on to respectfully ask if Hulk would accept a match at SummerSlam since Hulk is one of the biggest legends of all time and Orton is The Legend Killer.

Hogan said he accepted since Orton asked so politely and the men shook hands. Orton and Brooke made eyes at each other as Orton left the ring and he threw her a wink before walking up the ramp.

Later in the show, Brooke and Orton were talking by the Hogan’s car. Hulk surprised Orton from behind with a firm slap on the back and told Brooke it was time to go. Randy left as Hulk helped his daughter into the car. As Hulk was walked to the other side, Orton ran back and RKO’d Hogan on the trunk of the car.

A distraught Brooke ran to her father and asked Orton if he saw what happened. Orton smiled a devilish grin and slipped away while Brooke and extra help tended to the dazed Hulk.

The list of legends Orton has effectively killed include WWE Hall of Famer Harley Race, Cactus Jack, Jake "The Snake" Roberts, Rowdy Piper and many more. Can Orton add the ultimate legend of all time to his list or will SummerSlam be the end of his run? Can Hulkamania run Hogan over the youngest World Heavyweight Champion in WWE history or has his time simply passed? Will Brooke side with her father when she finds out what really happened or will daddy’s little girl be blinded young love?

Find out at SumerSlam and stay tuned to RAW to see what happens between these legendary Superstars.

Animal Unleashed On NBC
By Brett Hoffman
July 15th, 2006

SmackDown took center stage tonight at Saturday Night’s Main Event with a mammoth six-man Tag Team attraction. There were a number of issues at hand coming into this contest, among those being how SmackDown’s former World Heavyweight Champion, Batista, would respond to his first in-ring action since being injured at the hands of Mark Henry more than seven months ago. After Saturday Night’s Main Event, any of those who questioned Batista coming in got their answer loud and clear: SmackDown’s Animal is back.

The contest, which pitted World Champion Rey Mysterio, Batista and powerhouse Bobby Lashley against the team of King Booker, United States Champion Finlay and Mark Henry was not without controversy. At one point, Little Bastard injected himself into the match and assaulted World Champion Rey Mysterio with the shillelagh. With Mysterio down, King Booker, who will challenge Rey for the gold at The Great American Bash, went to work.

While King Booker and his Court were able to temporarily slow the World Champion and his teammates, there was nothing they could do to stop The Animal at Saturday Night’s Main Event.

Rey was able to once again show the resiliency that has defined his reign as Champion, making the tag to Batista and unleashing the Animal on King Booker and his team. With Finlay distracted by Lashley, Batista delivered a thunderous spinebuster on King Booker, which set up a 619 from Mysterio, which led to the final blow, a Batista Bomb from the returning Animal. With Booker lying on his royal keister, Batista made the cover, recording the pinfall on not just a King, but the No 1. Contender to the World Championship at The Great American Bash. The message to both the fans and the WWE roster was loud and clear: The Animal is back.

Trish And Carlito Victorious In Mixed Tag Team Match
By Jen Hunt
July 15th, 2006

The international clash between the hot Hollywood duo, Melina and Johnny Nitro, and the cool Canadian-Caribbean connection, Trish Stratus and Carlito, exploded at their Mixed Tag Team Match at Saturday Night’s Main Event. Carlito pinned Intercontinental Champion, Nitro, with the help of Trish, who ensured Nitro’s partner Melina didn’t interfere.

The matched started with both men in the ring, but Nitro stopped Carlito before the action could get underway. He tagged in Melina, who immediately called out Trish. The women traded blows until Nitro tripped Trish as she was coming off the ropes.

Melina took the opportunity give Trish a wet thumb to the eye. Trish responded by having her partner, Carlito, lick her hand before giving Melina a chop. A hair toss from Melina brought both women to their knees, so they tagged in their partners.

The men feverishly went at it. Carlito gained the advantage, hitting Nitro with a drop kick and some wheelbarrow action. Melina jumped in the ring to help her partner get the edge, but Trish had Carlito’s back. She flew across the ring and jumped on Melina. The women went rolling out of the ring to the floor.

Carlito gave the unaided Nitro a Back Cracker and pinned him for the win. Trish joined Carlito in the ring to celebrate their victory while Nitro helped a furious, screaming Melina from the floor and back to the locker-room area.

DX Dismantles The Spirit Squad
By Zack Zeigler
July 15th, 2006

Even though the odds were stacked against them in their Elimination Match, D-Generation X shut out the five members of the Spirit Squad. Their dominance proved yet again that although they’ve gained a reputation as the pranksters of WWE, HBK and Triple H are all business when they step inside the ring.

Prior to hitting the ring, the Chairman tried to rile up his troops with a pep talk. He told the Squad that he’d put two special holding cells at ringside that were to be used to lock Shawn Michaels and Triple H inside after they were eliminated.

However, before he could elaborate on his plan to divide and conquer, the two future Hall of Famers interrupted via split screen. Unbeknownst to the Chairman or the Sprit Squad, DX used voiceovers to take jabs at the “old, crusty geezer,” who they said was more concerned with the Squad taking care of “spanking his bottom until it turned red” instead of the match. The final ad lib came when Mr. McMahon’s proclamation of “Never ever again will we be embarrassed by DX” was promptly followed by dubbed flatulence.

In the ring, the Spirit Squad only saw glimpses of control, never posing too much of a threat to The Game or HBK. Mitch was the first one to be locked inside the cell, getting pinned after Michaels hit him with Sweet Chin Music. Johnny was next to go, after Triple H dropped him with a spinebuster for the pinfall.

With the odds now three on two, Kenny entered the ring. After a short tangle with HBK, he seemed to lose interest in the match and headed up the ramp towards the locker room area. HBK followed Kenny and went on the offensive, but was met with a chair to the back from Mr. McMahon.

Kenny dragged HBK to the ring with the Chairman following closely behind…and the fans let Mr. McMahon know their feelings towards him by echoing some unflattering chants as he strolled toward ringside.

Back in the ring, Kenny tagged in Nicky, who caught HBK in a Sleeper hold. Michaels broke the hold and tagged Triple H, who cleared the ring and hit Nicky with a Pedigree for the pinfall. With Nicky in the cell, the Handicap Match turned into a tag team match.

After Mikey was hit with Sweet Chin Music and pinned by Triple H, there was only one Squad member left—and he didn’t last long. After being beaten by both DX members, Kenny got hit with a Pedigree for the final pinfall, completing the shutout.

Mr. McMahon witnessed his plan to destroy HBK and The Game disintegrate from ringside, and it got worse when he went to unlock the Squad from the cell. After the door to the cell was unlocked, Mr. McMahon saw the Squad cower to the back. Stunned by their reaction, the Chairman turned around and got blasted with Sweet Chin Music, which knocked him into the cell. DX then grabbed the key and locked the door, putting the exclamation point on another embarrassing night for Mr. McMahon.

Extreme Challenge
By Brett Hoffman
July 15th, 2006

Saturday Night’s Main Event was not a great night for WWE legends. Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan’s return to NBC was ruined when he was on the business end of an RKO from Randy Orton and things didn’t go much better for SmackDown’s resident Deadman, the Undertaker.

The Great Khali was led to the ring by opinionated manager, Daivari, who in turn felt the need to address the sell-out crowd of more than 17,000 fans at the American Airlines Center. Among his many claims were that at The Great American Bash, Great Khali will bury the Undertaker once and for all when the two meet in the first ever Punjabi Prison Match.

Daivari’s speech was interrupted not by Undertaker, but instead by the current ECW World Heavyweight Champion, Big Show. The 7’5, 500 Pound Extremist, who was escorted to the ring by ECW representative Paul Heyman, immediately made it clear that he was not there to challenge Khali, but instead compliment him on his recent destruction of the SmackDown icon.

“First, let me tell you a little bit about who I am,” Big Show said to Khali. “I’m the first man ever to hold the WCW Championship, the WWE Championship and the ECW Championship. See you’re a big man, and one day we’ll have to find out who the real big man is, but that’s not why I’m here. The way you dominated Undertaker, I’ve never seen anything like it. You have the Phenom’s number...” Apparently, it wasn’t just the Dallas fans who were growing tired of Big Show’s gospel, because seconds later, the real Phenom made his way to the ring.

Once he arrived, Taker let his actions do the talking. The Deadman assaulted both Khali and Big Show, at one point sending the Punjab warrior over the top rope with a clothesline. The rally didn’t last long though, because seconds later Khali returned to the ring, setting the stage for a scene that both NBC and WWE viewers may never forget. Undertaker’s attempt to chokeslam both Khail and Big Show at the same time was thwarted, instead resulting in the Phenom being on the receiving end of one a double chokeslam from his adversaries. The end result was a wounded Undertaker sprawled out on the mat, leaving Saturday Night’s Main Event viewers with a morbid image of a man who normally rules the WWE ring.

Afterwards, Todd Grisham caught up with Big Show backstage, who issued a challenge for this Tuesday’s episode of ECW on Sci Fi.

“Like I said, Khali has Taker's number,” said the Extremist. “But he’s not an extreme giant. He’s not the ECW Champion. Undertaker, I’m challenging you to a match this Tuesday night for the ECW World Heavyweight Championship."

What will happen when the Phenom comes to ECW? Tune in this Tuesday at 11/10 CT, live on ECW on Sci Fi.

SNME gets Extreme
By Brett Hoffman
July 15th, 2006

ECW’s Suicidal, Genocidal, Homicidal, Death-Defying maniac Sabu made more history tonight when he came through the curtain at Saturday Night's Main Event. The Extremist made not only ECW history, but WWE history as well when he took on Stevie Richards in the first ever Extreme Rules match in the storied run of Saturday Night’s Main Event.

Unfortunately for Stevie Richards, a motivated Sabu was determined to make a statement in his first appearance on network television. The ECW extremist used a handful of moves from his trademark high-risk arsenal including a soaring version of Air Sabu, a triple jump moonsault off a chair, and then finally sealed the deal by leaping off the top turnbuckle and driving Richards through a table with a steel chair.

At the end of the night, the millions of viewers that were witnessing the antics of Sabu and ECW for the time were given an extreme introduction to what the world of extreme is all about. Those wishing to see more of the unpredictable style of ECW and Sabu can tune in every Tuesday night to ECW on Sci Fi.

Michelle McCool Wins The Diva Bull Riding Competition
By Zack Zeigler
July 15th, 2006

In round one of the Diva Bull Riding competition, held prior to Saturday Night’s Main Event, 10 Divas from all three brands competed to outlast one another on a mechanical bull. The two finalists were RAW Diva Victoria and SmackDown Diva Michelle McCool.

McCool managed to walk away with the victory by holding on for 12 seconds, beating Victoria’s seven second performance.

Cena Snaps On Edge
By Zack Zeigler
July 15th, 2006

Going into Saturday Night’s Main Event, John Cena said the fans should expect to see a fight when he took on WWE Champion Edge…and that’s exactly what the 17,343 fans in the sold out American Airlines Arena saw.

In order to regain the WWE Championship from Edge, Cena needed to score a pinfall or submission; but while he had Edge locked in the STFU in the middle of the ring, Lita’s interference gave Cena the win by DQ, which doesn’t cause the Championship to change hands.

Control in the match went back and forth, but it was Cena who took command after he hit the Rated R Superstar with a Five Knuckle Shuffle and an FU. With Edge visibly stunned, Cena went for the cover and it looked as if a new Champion would emerge. However, Lita wasn’t about to let her man lose without doing her part to help him retain his Championship. When Cena covered Edge, she yanked the referee out of the ring, interrupting his count. This gave Edge the chance to regroup, but he couldn’t catch Cena off guard. After Edge missed a Spear, Cena locked in the STFU; with nowhere to turn, it looked as if Edge would have no choice but to submit. That’s when Lita grabbed the referee again; but this time, she added a smack to his face, causing the ref to signal for the bell.

Cena thought the bell was called for the submission, and dropped to his knees believing he just reclaimed WWE gold. Unfortunately, his happiness turned to rage when he realized the bell was called for a disqualification. As Cena stood shocked in the ring, Edge got his composure and was able to catch Cena with a Spear.

With Cena laid out in the ring, Edge took his time leaving ringside, but made the mistake of taking his eyes off Cena. The challenger got a second wind, and something devious seemed to take over that caused Cena to lose control. He slammed Edge in the face with a TV monitor, then draped the Rated R Superstar over his back, climbed to the top of the steel steps and slammed him into the announcers’ table with an FU.

Edge may still be the WWE Champion, but it was Cena who was able to walk away from their match with his head held high.
