Lightbulb WWE New Year's Revolution - Official Thread

Hey guys! What a way to finish off the year with Armageddon, up next for the WWE, New Year's Revolution! It airs LIVE on PPV Sunday, January 8th from the Pepsi Arena in Albany, New York - the first PPV of the new year, 2006! 2 matches have already been set for the card, The Elimination Chamber returns to decide the WWE Title and Mickie James vs. Trish Stratus for the WWE Women's Title. Here's a preview of the PPV and the matches so far, I'll add the matches to the card as soon as they're announced. Enjoy!

The Elimination Chamber Returns
January 8th, 2006

On January 8, 2006, six men will enter the Elimination Chamber at New Year’s Revolution with one goal in mind: walk out as WWE Champion. For the second year in a row, New Year’s Revolution will feature the Elimination Chamber, with five challengers attempting to outlast John Cena in a quest for the WWE Championship.

In his last act as RAW General Manager, Eric Bischoff decided that the WWE Championship would be up for grabs inside the Elimination Chamber. And on the Dec. 12 edition of RAW, interim GM Mr. McMahon announced five qualifying matches to see who would join John Cena inside the Chamber on Jan. 8.

That night, Kurt Angle, Carlito, Chris Masters, Shawn Michaels and Kane all won their qualifying matches to become Cena’s five challengers on Jan. 8. Only Kane and Michaels have competed inside the Elimination Chamber before; will that prior experience propel them to victory, or will one of the other newcomers dethrone Cena? Or, can The Champ overcome all the odds once again to walk out of New Year’s Revolution with his gold?

Also at New Year’s Revolution, Mickie James gets the chance of a lifetime when she faces her idol, Trish Stratus, for the WWE Women’s Championship. Since debuting on RAW in the fall, Mickie has proven to be Trish’s biggest fan, cheering her idol to victory and helping the Women’s Champion whenever she needed it. On the Dec. 12 edition of RAW, Mickie defeated Victoria to become the No. 1 Contender, and now must defeat the one woman she idolizes to win the big one.

In recent weeks, Trish has seemed less and less interested in Mickie’s friendship. On a WWE.com Unlimited segment before Mickie became No. 1 Contender, Trish seemed ready to tell her that they weren’t as close as Mickie thought. However, Trish felt bad after Mickie told a story about her late grandfather, and watched with the RAW announce team as Mickie won the right to be her next challenger. Can Mickie dethrone her idol and claim the gold, or will the fans get another dose of Stratusfaction on Jan. 8?

Don’t miss New Year’s Revolution, live Sunday, January 8 from the Pepsi Arena in Albany, NY. Stay tuned to WWE.com as more is announced for the first RAW pay-per-view spectacular of 2006.

Elimination Chamber Match For The WWE Championship
January 8th, 2006

In his last act as RAW General Manager, Eric Bischoff decided that the WWE Championship would be up for grabs inside the Elimination Chamber. And on the Dec. 12 edition of RAW, interim GM Mr. McMahon announced five qualifying matches to see who would join John Cena inside the Chamber on Jan. 8.

In the first qualifying match, Kurt Angle earned himself another shot at the gold by defeating Ric Flair. Carlito then defeated Shelton Benjamin and Chris Masters defeated Viscera to earn the third and fourth slots.

In the next qualifying match, Triple H cost Big Show a spot in the Chamber. As Show had Shawn Michaels beaten, Triple H intervened, nailing HBK with a chair to get Show disqualified. However, Big Show would get his revenge, helping tag team partner Kane deliver a double chokeslam to defeat Triple H and earn the final slot.

Only Kane and Michaels have competed inside the Elimination Chamber before. Will that prior experience propel them to victory, or will Carlito or Masters climb the ladder and win their first WWE Championship? Will Angle finally get his hands on the gold again, or will The Champ overcome all the odds once again to walk out of New Year’s Revolution with his gold? Order New Year’s Revolution on Jan. 8 to find out.

Trish Stratus vs. Mickie James For The Women's Championship

Hey guys! Last night on RAW, 2 more matches were put on the card for NYR - Ric Flair vs. Edge for the IC Title and Big Show vs. Triple H. Here's info on both matches -

Big Show vs. Triple H
January 8th, 2006

Big Show has watched as the Cerebral Assassin has done some vile things in WWE. When Triple H mutilated Ric Flair with a sledgehammer a few months ago, Big Show was disgusted and confronted “The Game,” saying that one day, “Your time will come.”

That day may come at New Year’s Revolution on Jan. 8.

On RAW, Big Show and Triple H officially signed their contract to meet at the pay-per-view. And Big Show wasn’t in a giving mood the day after Christmas because Triple H had recently tried to incapacitate World Tag Team Championship partner Kane. But the largest athlete in the world didn’t expect to be introduced to Triple H’s sledgehammer as part of a package deal. When the contract signing got physical, Triple H pulled out his weapon of choice from under the table … where he had taped the sledge for just such a circumstance. The Game then struck with the sledgehammer, shattering Big Show’s hand in attempt to make himself chokeslam-proof at the pay-per-view.

Will Big Show get his revenge on the big stage, or will Triple H chop down another giant? Watch New Year’s Revolution to find out.

Intercontinental Champion Ric Flair vs. Edge
January 8th, 2006

Ever since Ric Flair was allegedly involved in a “road rage” incident, Edge has been relentless in his criticism. Using his new interview segment, “The Cutting Edge,” as a forum to viciously mock Flair at every turn and in every way, Edge further and further infuriated the Intercontinental Champion.

Finally, during the Dec. 26, edition of RAW, Flair stormed to the ring. Unable to verbally dispute Edge’s claims because of a legal gag order, Flair instead answered with his fists, sending Edge and Lita retreating from the ring area.

Seeing what had transpired, Mr. McMahon ordered an Intercontinental Championship Match at New Year’s Revolution between champion Ric Flair and Edge. Will Flair physically shut up Edge, or will Edge spear his elder opponent into oblivion? Watch New Year’s Revolution on Jan. 8, to find out.

Kane: Talented but just not good enough to be champ.

Angle: One of the few defendable reasons to watch RAW. Needs the belt.

Michaels: See Angle

Cena: Needs to lose the belt at once.

Carlito: Good yes. Champion no.

Masters: Arguably the worst RAW superstar on the roster.

I guess Masters will win it.

Im enjoying this PPV so far.

Try telling that to Randy Orton.

Chris Masters is a far cry from Randy Orton.

I like Masters and all. He has a good look and nice finisher as long as he's wrestling Tajiri or Val Venis. And I hear he's a great guy backstage with his a good head on his shoulders. But his story-telling skills probably wouldn't even impress a 5-year-old at storytime. I mean vocally AND in the context of a match.

Holy crap, I just realized I don't think I've ever seen Masters execute a suplex.

Random observations for the Chamber match:

1) This is the first chamber without Triple H
2) Also the first chamber match without Chris Jericho
3) First time for Kane in the Chamber since the original in 2002
4) Triple H entered all three previous chamber matches as the champion. Only had to start the match once (the original). He lost the title in that match.
5) The only time the winner was the last person into the match was in the original when Shawn Michaels entered last and won.

Congratulations NDD. You are now inducted into the Chris Masters Fan Club! Population: 1.

You need to see his Match with Chavo and the spot he blew with the dropkick, and his promo afterwards. You'll be a believer of me.

Check back on my last post. I actually agreed with you about Chris Masters. I said:

Chris Mordetzky (Masters) = Good guy, good attitude backstage from what I hear

Chris's finishing move/look/strength: Pretty cool

Everything else, inlcuding Chris's abilities to enthrall an audience: Pretty crappy.

Actually, there was one shining moment of Chris's career, personality-wise. I'll always remember cracking up when I saw him at the Eric Bischoff trial standing in the courtroom as the bailiff...with no freakin shirt on. Priceless. He was pretty cool that night.

Final Card.

Divas 5 Way B&P Gauntlet Match. Anyone looking forward to watching this should be bayonetted.

Lawler VS Helms. Gregory Helms? WHO?! Another match we dont need.

Edge VS Flair. Edge to win this on a DQ. Please under no circumstance allow Flair to go over Edge in any way possible.

Mickie James VS Trish Stratus. Mickie to win. Trish to turn heel.

Big Show VS HHH. Sledgehammer vs Cast. Tough call but HHH should win this as a warm up for the Royal Rumble

Elimination Chamber. Ah fuck it. Cena to win and turn heel. Biggest heel turn since the Rock.
