Gossip WWE The Great American Bash - The Official Thread

Hey guys! Here's your Official Thread for this month's WWE PPV, The Great American Bash - which can be seen LIVE on PPV Sunday, July 23rd 2006 from the Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, IN! 4 monumental matches have been named so far, below is more info on the show & matches.

World Champion Rey Mysterio vs. King Booker
July 23rd, 2006

At the Great American Bash, Rey Mysterio will defend the World Heavyweight Championship against King Booker…and less than 2 hours after earning the opportunity, the challenger sent a message to the champion.

On the July 7th SmackDown, King Booker last eliminated William Regal and Matt Hardy to win a Battle Royal, a victory that gave him the right to face Mysterio on July 23rd. Later that night, the challenger was waiting backstage as Mysterio was helped to the back following an attack by Mark Henry.

As soon as Mysterio stepped through the curtain, Booker pounced and sent the World Champion reeling. After slamming him into tables, equipment trunks and anything else he could find, Booker let Sharmell get the last blow. The Queen kicked Mysterio in the groin, and the royal couple slinked away as officials tended to the fallen Champion.

Of course, one has to wonder if Booker’s royal Court will be lurking at ringside waiting to help him become the World Champion. Can Mysterio overcome everything and keep his dream alive on July 23rd, or will the King walk out of Indianapolis with some new bling around his waist?

Batista vs. Mark Henry
July 23rd, 2006

Late in 2005, Mark Henry was brought back to SmackDown to take out Batista. He accomplished that mission in the short term, but The World’s Strongest Man didn’t quite finish the job. After six months on the shelf, The Animal is back and will be looking for revenge when he meets Henry at The Great American Bash.

On January 13th in Philadelphia, Batista was forced to relinquish the World Heavyweight Championship. The Animal had a torn tricep, an injury resulting from Henry’s brutality in the ring. Unfortunately, he was just the first name on what would become a lengthy list of Henry’s victims…but unlike most of the others so far, The Animal plans to do something about it.

On July 7th Batista made his return in Philadelphia, this time to call out Henry on SmackDown. The World’s Strongest Man seemed to want no part of a fight, but an assist from Rey Mysterio got the ball rolling. While Henry attacked the World Champion, Batista clobbered him from behind and delivered a brutal beating that left the World’s Strongest Man bloody and battered.

At The Great American Bash, Batista will be looking to finish what Henry started six months ago. The Animal may be unleashed once again, but can he be the one to finally victimize the World’s Strongest Man on July 23rd?

Undertaker vs. The Great Khali In A Punjabi Prison Match
July 23rd, 2006

At The Great American Bash, Undertaker may be up against the toughest challenge of his career when he faces The Great Khali in a Punjabi Prison Match.

Of course, no one other than Khali (and maybe Daivari) even knows what a Punjabi Prison Match actually is. That in itself gives Khali a huge advantage, but that is only multiplied by the psychological advantage Khali has had since destroying Undertaker at The Great American Bash.

For weeks, Khali has been mocking Undertaker by using his signature taunts, even going so far as to put Gunner Scott in a body bag on SmackDown. Finally, after weeks of disappearance, Undertaker “returned” on July 7th.

Following Khali’s match with Tatanka, the monster intended to put the Native American Warrior in a casket. However, when the tomb was opened, smoke billowed out and the lights in the arena dimmed. With his voice filling the arena, the Deadman accepted Khali’s Punjabi Prison challenge and told the monster that he would rest in peace.

At Judgment Day, The Great Khali shocked everyone when he defeated Undertaker. Can he make it two in a row on July 23rd, or will the Deadman send Khali to his own Punjabi Prison?

Triple Threat Match for the United States Championship
July 23rd, 2006

For weeks, Bobby Lashley has incessantly fought off King Booker and his royal Court. But to keep his United States Championship, Lashley will have to defeat two members of the Court, William Regal & Finlay, in a Triple Threat Match on July 23rd.

The match was announced on the July 7th SmackDown, and it will be every man for himself. In fact, Finlay reminded William Regal of this backstage…but of course, one would have to think that they will work together to take out the common enemy. And on top of that, Little Bastard is sure to be lurking around at ringside to make Lashley’s predicament that much worse.

While he has defeated almost everyone that has gotten in his path, Lashley seems to be in jeopardy on July 23rd. Can he overcome the odds and defeat both Regal & Finlay, or will one of King Booker’s loyal subjects walk out of Indianapolis with the gold?

Ah yes the great american bash. Worst PPV of 2004 and 2005. Can it do the hatrick? It will if the booking is as fucked as it was.

Khali and Henry must lose. Finlay ought to win the title from lashley and Booker T must go over as champ.

NO NO Kahli and Henry BETTER lose! Think about it though, this is Batista's first PPV match after returning and I see him winning in a BIG way. If Taker loses, he might as well retire LOL enough said about that.

I didnt like the GAB from 2004 because JBL won the title then Eddie pretty much got barried after that, it sucked!

I see Booker T beating Rey and being a transitional champ. Smackdown! is Batista's show and that's all there is to it. He'll put Mark Henry behind him and move on to concentrate on Booker T.

I like Finlay. I think he's a great wrestler and he's a whole lot of fun to watch in the ring. But I have a feeling Lashley is going to be pushed toward the top of Smackdown! over the next year. I see him overcoming Booker's royal court. He'll probably pin Regal. to retain.

Undertaker...probably going to win. I can only hope. I just want Kahli to disappear forever...for the sake of wrestling fans everywhere. He's an embarassment to the sport.

I figure this PPV needs three or four more matches. GAB has a history of quick, poorly promoted matches leading up to the beefy matchs. So here's what I'm thinking:

Super Crazy vs. Psicosis
The Pitbulls vs. London and Kendrick for the Tag Titles
Gregory Helms vs. Vito (in a dress) for the CW Title
Ashley Massaro vs. Kristal Marshall

Breaking News on the bash. Lashley has had to take time off for his own health and will miss the match with Finlay and Regal which will now be 1 on 1.

I can't wait to see what the hell this punanni prison match deal is. I hope the undertaker comes out with a victory too. i'm sick of big guys who can't wrestle getting pushed just because they are big and it would "look" better. f that
